Deed - Nathaniel Tatum to Julius Perry 1781 (Deed Book 1, page 8, Greensville Co.VA.) THIS INDENTURE made this twenty fourth Day of September in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty one Between Nathaniel Tatum of the County of Greensville and Phoebe his wife of the one part and Julius Perry of the County of Brunswick of the other part WITNESSETH that the said Nathaniel Tatum and Phoebe his wife for and in consideration of the sum of seventy five pounds current money in specie and one likely negroe lad slave between the age of fifteen and twenty years by the said Julius Perry paid and delivered to the said Nathaniel Tatum at or before the execution hereof have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Julius Perry and to his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of Land lying and being in the Counties of Brunswick and Greensville on the North side of fountain's Creek which he the said Nathaniel Tatum purchased of Briggs Goodrich and Mary his wife and Lee Clark and containing by estimation three hundred and sixty acres and bounded as followeth Beginning at a Dogwood on Briggs Goodrich's line thence to a large pine thence to a white oak near a branch on Wilkin's line thence up the said branch to a pine thence along a line of marked trees to a white oak a corner on Ferguson's line thence to a large Chesnut red oak thence to a shrub white oak thence to a white oak thence to a pine thence to a pine thence to a red oak on Ridleys line thence to a poplar thence to a pine on Joshua Clark's thence to the Creek, from thence down the said Creek to the beginning Dogwood. WITH all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appurtaining TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said three hundred and sixty acres of Land be the same more or less, with all and singular the appurtenances unto him the said Julius Perry and to his heirs and assigns forever To the only use of him the said Julius Perry his heirs and assigns forever And the said Nathaniel Tatum for himself his heirs Executors and Admtrs. doth hereby Covenant to and with the said Julius Perry his heirs and assigns that the said Julius Perry his heirs and assigns shall peaceably hold _ enjoy the said granted premises forever And the said Nathaniel Tatum his heirs Executors and Admtrs. the said tract of Land unto the said Julius Perry his heirs and assigns will warrant and forever defend IN WITNESS whereof the said Nathaniel Tatum and Phoebe his wife have hereunto set their hands and Seals the Day and year above written.
