GREENSVILLE HOMICIDE - HUSTINGS COURT - INDICTMENTS AND CONVICTIONS - GRAND CONSERVATIVE RALLY - REPUBLICAN MEETING - FATAL CASE OF BURNING - ANOTHER INCENDIARY FIRE - OTHER ITEMS. [Correspondence of the Richmond Dispatch.] October 17, 1878. The killing of the negro Adolpbus Trotter at Hicksford yesterday afternoon, during the progress of a Republican meeting at that place, by Mr. William A. Reese, is very much regretted by the friends of that gentleman, and is regarded as a very unfortunate affair in this section of the State, where occurrences of such a character are rare. Mr. Reese, it is understood and claimed, acted in self-defence, and only fired his pistol after a blow had been aimed at his head with a stick by the deceased. The case was set for a preliminary examination to-day, and Major Charles F. Stringfellow went out to Hicksford this morning to act as counsel for Mr. Reese. [...] P.S. In the examining trial of William A. Reese to-day at Hicksford for the killing of Adolpus Trotter, the accused was sent on to the County Court for trial and bailed in the sum $1,000.
