All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ GEORGE FRANKLIN WILLIAMS George Franklin Williams, 85, well-known farmer and lumberman of the Emporia community, died in Raiford Memorial Hospital on Tuesday morning, July 16, after an illness of several days. He was the son of the late Nichols and Ada Harris Williams of Southampton County. He was a member of the Adams Grove Baptist church, in which he served for many years. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Blanche Dunn Williams of Emporia; two daughters, Mrs. Alva Williams Long of Orange C.H. and Mrs. Serena Elizabeth Barham of Portsmouth; one son, Elmer McNair Williams of Emporia; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leo R. Williams of Petersburg, C.F. Williams of Waverly, and Crawford Williams of Yale; one sister, Mrs. J.H. Dunn of Yale; and a number of nieces and nephews. Services for Mr. Williams were conducted this (Thursday) afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in the chapel of W.J.M. Holland & Sons by Rev. Stuart Grizzard, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Norfolk, and Rev. William W. Stennett, pastor of the Thomas Memorial Baptist Church in Drewryville. Burial was in the family cemetery near Grizzard, Sussex County.
