GREENSVILLE COUNTY, VA - WILLS - Henry Cook, 29 Dec 1799 ----¤¤¤---- Greensville Co., Va. In the name of God Amen. I Henry Cook of Greensville County & State of Virginia being poorly in body but of sound mind and disposing memory thanks be to God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my Body do make and ordain this to be my last Will & Testament in manner & form as followeth (vizt) Impremis I lend unto my beloved wife Mary Cook during her natural life the plantation whereon I now live also the following slaves: Windsor, young Cate, & old Cate & Moll also Selah. Item 1st. I give & bequeath to my Daughter Mary Crump the following slaves Amey, Violet & Joe with their increase to her and her heirs forever. Item 2nd. I land unto my Sarah Young (sic) during her natural life the following slaves Mingo, Esther & Aggy with their increase and after her death to the heirs lawfully descending from her Body to them and their heirs forever. Item 3, I give and bequeath to my son Uriah Cook when he arrives to lawful age the Tract of land lying on Cattail Creek which I purchased of Joshua Griffis containing Two Hundred and two acres more or less also the following slaves, Isbell, Hampton & Betty to him and his heirs forever. Item 4th I give and bequeath to my son Harry Cook the following slaves Holland & Sharper to him and his heirs for ever. Item 5, I give & bequeath to my son Jack Cook at the death of my beloved wife one equal half of my plantation whereon I now live also the following slaves to wit Jim, Charlotte & Clary with their increase to him and his heirs forever when he arrives to lawful age or marries. Item 6, I give and bequeath to my son Ellic Cook when he arrives to lawful age or marries the following slaves Frank, Edenborough & Sarah with their increase also at the death of my wife I give and bequeath to my son the half of my Land whereon I now live to him and his heirs forever. Item 7, I give and bequeath to my daughter Silviah Cook when she arrives to lawful age or marries the following slaves Hannah, Notice & Ben with their increase to her and her heirs forever. Item 8, My will and desire is that my beloved wife do give & bequeath at her death all the negroes which I have lent her among my children as she may see cause also whatever I may hereafter lend her I lend unto my beloved wife during her natural life all my stock of Horses, Cattle Hogs &c. also all my crop of corn Tobacco & also all my household & kitchen furniture & plantation utensils for the purpose of paying my just debts and to raise and school my younger children. Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint James W. Clark & my wife Mary Cook Executors to this my last Will Testament & I do hereby forever revoke forever disannul all and every other will bye me hereto fore mad & I do hereby acknowledge this to be my last Will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and fixed my seal this 29th day of December and in the Year of Our Lord 1799. This will was proved according to law by the Witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the Executrix therein named who made oath thereto and with Forster Cook John Sykes & Alexander Madill her securities acknowledged Bond in the penalty of Fifteen Thousand Dollars with condition as the Law directs Certificate was granted her for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
