The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net *********************************************************************** Greensville Co., VA, Will Book 4, pp. 333-34 Francis FURGASON's Will In the name of God Amen I, Francis FOGGERSON of the County of Greensville and State of Virginia, sick and weak in body but in perfect mind and memory thanks be to the almighty for the same and calling to mind that it is appointed for all persons once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say- first of all I give my soul to the Almighty God that gave it me and body to its Mother Earth to be buried in a decent manner at the discretion of my executors hereafter mentioned, and as touching such worldly goods as has been pleased God to bless me with I desire and bequeath as follows towit I loan to my wife during her natural life or widowhood one fourth of my lands including my mansion lands, the balance of my lands to be equally divided between Peterson G. FOGGERSON, Esau G. FOGGERSON and Elias FURGASON and Etheldred FOGGERSON and after the death of my beloved wife or widowhood the one fourth to be divided betwix Elias and Etheldred FURGASON. I loan to my beloved wife during her natural life or widowhood the following negroes towit Yello Nancy Anniss Sellar Dick and little Jims Ben Aaron Williams & Jane and after her death or widowhood my will and desire is that the said negroes to be equally divided between Elias FURGASON and Etheldred FURGASON to them and their heirs or assigns forever and if either of them should die before they arrive at lawful age the said property is to go to surviving one and the said Elias and Etheldred is to have a good old field schooling to be paid out of my money in hand. Item I give to Peterson G. FURGASON the following negroes towit Lessey Manerva Mary Carslene Betsey Ebeline fiel Sam and big Jim to him and his heirs or assigns forever. Item I give to my son Esau G. FURGASON the following negroes towit Hannah, Charlotte Martha fiel Hannah's child Goodwyn Ben Bebanna Washington to him and his heirs or assigns forever. Item I give to my son Lockhart FURGASON the following negroes towit Nat and black Nancy and the negroes he is in possession to him and his heirs or assigns forever. Item I give to Polly ALLEN wife of Henry ALLEN twenty shillings to her and her heirs or assigns forever. Item I give to Elizabeth JEANE wife of James JEANE twenty shillings to her and her heirs or assigns forever. Item I give to my son Beramon FOGGERSON twenty shillings to him and his heirs or assigns forever. My will and desire is that Isabel to have her choice of my children which she will live with. My will and desire is that my Exor. is to leave on the plantation two of the best horses for my wife and her two sons Ethelred and Elias FURGASON to make a support with and leave them a support on the plantation for my wife and two sons and their negroes, leave enough out hogs and cattle to keep up the plantation, after my wife's death or widowhood the said property is to be equally divided between Elias and Etheldred FURGASON, balance f my property both real and personal which has not been disposed of to be equally divided between Lockhart FURGASON John FURGASON Peterson G. FURGASON Esau G. FURGASON Elias FURGASON Etheldred FURGASON to them and their heirs or assigns forever. I give to my beloved wife one bed, Keepsake. Lastly I hereby appoint my two sons Locket FURGASON and John FURGASON executor to this my last will and testament as witness I have hereunto set my [name] and affixed my seal this 24th of March 1834 Francis FURGASON [his mark] Test. FURGASON Etheldred FURGASON and Eias FURGASON one feather bed and furniture each together with other house-hold furniture, having omitted to mention the same in former Items. I also give & bequest unto my two sons Etheldred and Elias FURGASON my black mare and colt to them and their heirs forever. Francis FURGASON [his mark] witness Thos. DELLAHAY, Edmd. BRANSCOMB At a court held for the County of Greensville on the 6th of August 1834 This last will and testament of Francis FURGASON decd. was this day presented in Court by John FURGASON one of the Exors. therein named and together with the Codecil therein & therafter written was presented by the oaths of the witnesses thereunto respectively and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of John FURGASON (the other Exor. now refusing to qualify) who made oath thereunto and together with Lockhart FURGASON Peterson G. FURGASON and Esau G. FURGASON his securites entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of $40,000.
