I have not attempted to follow the chain transfer of the slaves. They are frequently lent to the wife with the stipulation that if she marries, they are to be divided differently, usually between their children, but not always. After Mary, his wife, marries or dies, the above-listed slaves are to be sold and the money arising from the sale to be divided equally among his living children: Thomas, Hamlin, Henry Allen, Mary Shelton, Patsy Mangum and Jane Whitfield. Slaveholder: Mabry, Elizabeth Jones Document type: will Document date: 27 Nov 1788 Slave given to: Judith Mabry, her sister :Patt, negro girl Slave given to: Mary Mabry, her sister :Scott, negro boy Slaveholder: McLin, William Document type: Will Document date: 29 Sep 1805 Slave given to: John D. McLin and william W. McLin, his sons Comments: The Will reads "it is my will an desire that my negroes shall be equally divided between my two sons; my son Jack D. McLin bringing those into the division that I now heretofore gave him and the said division to take place as soon as the crop is finished". (Jack D. is the same person as John D.) Early in the Will, William McLin says that he gives property to his beloved wife Fanny and in the middle of the Will he says his wife b can continue to live on the plantation and toward the end of the Will, he appoints his beloved wife Ann McLin as Executrix along with his brothers. Three wives was not explained. Slaveholder: Rawlings, Elizabeth Document type: Will Document date: 20 Nov 1801 Slave given to: Drury and Isaac and Nancy Walton, her children :all increase of negroes Comments: Elizabeth states that the 3 children are to receive all the increase of negroes belonging to her estate since the death of her husband, Isaac R. Walton.
