HALIFAX COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Carden Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Carden graveyard: 1937 Apr. 29 Research made by Allan Lacey Cemetery Location: 4.5 miles east of Scottsburg, Virginia, on Route #725, thence north 2.5 miles on Route #716, thence east 100 yards on Route #717, on the north side of the road. Halifax County DATE: The earliest marker is dated 1861. OWNERS: The Carden family and their descendents. DESCRIPTION: This graveyard contains about two hundred square yards and is fenced in. The graves are covered with honeysuckle and wild flowers. Many of the graves are unmarked. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The oldest graves marked are those of Mr. John Carden, builder and first operator of Carden’s Mill, and his wife. The inscriptions read as follows: John Carden Born Jany. 3, 1802 Died March 10, 1861 Elizabeth F.
