Rice Cemetery Location: 19 miles southwest from Halifax, Virginia. 15.7 miles west (left) from Halifax, Virginia, on Route #360, thence 3 miles south (left) on Route #662, thence .3 miles east (left) on a private road leading to the house, family graveyard in rear of the house. Halifax County DATE: About 1827. OWNERS: William Ferrell, 1818, Deed book 27, page 145 Ferrell Ancestors, present owners (1938). DESCRIPTION: To the rear of the house is the Ferrell Family Graveyard. There are four graves with an iron covering and an iron stand at the head of the graves. These stands are made open-work of flowers. Over the graves are iron coverings shaped something like a pine cone and on the raised central part is a flower pot of a similar shapre. There are no inscriptions or dates on them. It is a known fact that they are the graves of William Ferrell, and other members of the Ferrell family. William Ferrell died in 1827 and is buried there.
