Ragland Cemetery Location: 9.5 miles southwest of South Boston, Virginia. Go .8 mile south of South Boston, on Route #501, thence 1.5 miles southwest on Route #711. The graveyard is on the north side of the road. Halifax County DATE: 1854. OWNERS: Henry G. Tucker 1832 Thomas F. Harris 1836 Nathaniel M. Wilson 1874 D. W. Owen 1880 Mr. Owen is the present owner of the property surrounding the graveyard (1938). DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is about one hundred yards south of the D. W. Owen home. It is enclosed with a picket fence. There are a good many large trees, boxwood, cedars and evergreens in this small graveyard. It is well kept by descendents of the Harris family. The first stone whose inscription is quoted below, has a stone wall twelve inches high around it. A marble slab covers the grave, there being a similar marble slab over the grave of Ann L. Harris. Several of the stones are of the small upright type and the stone at the grave of Dr. James Edwin Harris and his wife Charlotte has a marble obelisk which stands about eight feet high and has an urn on top of it. Tucker Born June 16, 1818 Died Jan. 27, 1892 Dr. James Edwin Harris Born July 18, 1814 Died Sept. 2, 1859 and Charlotte, his wife Born Apr. 25, 1818 Died Dec. 31, 1860 Elizabeth Spencer daughter of Dr. J.E. and C.C. Harris Born Aug. 27, 1845 Died Oct. 7, 1912 Annie L. Daughter of Dr. J.E. and C.C. Harris Born Oct. 3, 1841 Died Nov. 5, 1895 James Edwin, Jr. Son of Dr. J.E. and C.C.
