Mayo: 1937 Dec. 1 Research made by Lizzie B. Ragland Cemetery Location: 12 miles southeast of South Boston, Virginia. Go 11 miles south of South Boston on Route #501, thence 1 mile on private road leading to graveyard, east of #501. Halifax County DATE: 1851. OWNERS: Descendents of Richard Venable Watkins. Present owners to date. (1937) DESCRIPTION: This lot is enclosed with a stone wall three feet high and eighteen inches wide. The entrance has an iron gate. Two graves have brick walls around them with marble slabs placed over the top. The other graves have perpendicular marble slabs. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following inscriptions were copied from the stones: Sacred to the memory of R. V. Watkins Born Oct. 9, 1812 Died Dec. 3, 1889 He came to his grave in a full age like as a shock of corn cometh in his season. Sacred to the memory of Mary A.E. Watkins Born July 14th, 1819 Died July 6th, 1873 Aged 54 years. Leaving a fond husband and 12 living children. With us her name shall live through long succeeding years, embalmed with all our hearts can give our praises and our tears. To the memory of Little Margaret Third daughter of Rich’d V. and Mary A.E.W. Born June 22nd, 1845 Died November 5, 1851 To the memory of Richard V. Watkins 4rth son of R.V. and M.A.E.W. Born July 31, 1846 Died March 5, 1864 Aged 17 years and 7 months To the memory of W. M. Watkins 2nd son of R.V. and M.A.E.W.
