Cemetery Location:  Go 3.6 miles south of South Boston, Virginia on Route #501.  
                    The cemetery is on the west side of the road.
                    Halifax County


DATE:

1858.

OWNERS:

Reserved for the Wyatts and their descendents.

DESCRIPTION:

This cemetery is located on land owned by Mrs. Lilly Crowder Traynham, but the 
cemetery is reserved by the Wyatt family and their descendents.  Located about 
one hundred fifty yards northwest of the house, it is enclosed with a picket 
fence and there are cedar trees growing inside the fence and around the small 
cemetery.  It is a well kept cemetery and there are many graves, although only 
two have markers.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:


Isham Wyatt’s grave has a marble slab on which is carved a tree of the weeping 
willow type.  The inscription is as follows:

To the memory of
Isham Wyatt
Born Jan. 20, 1779
Died Aug. 26, 1858
Long will he live in memory of affectionate friends...

The other grave which has a marker is that of Elizabeth Wyatt.  The marble slab 
is like that of Isham Wyatt in size and shape, but instead of having a tree on 
it, it has the image of a woman pointing heavenward.  The following is the 
inscription copied from it:

Meet me in Heaven
Sacred to the memory of
Elizabeth Wyatt
Daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Jordan
Born Feb. 11, 1784
Died Dec. 28, 1861
Aged 77 years and 17 days
Long will she live in the
memory of many dear friends.
It may be truly said of her
that she was always more
willing to give than to receive.
