Road Surveys-Crew, 1763-1764 MAY Ct. 1763 Redmon FALLON is appointed Surveyor of the Road from Falling Ck. to Sandy River, he along with the male laboring tithables belonging to himself and Issac DODSON, John BARNES, Jasper BILLING, David LAY, John BILLINGS,  John STONE, Ruben DODSON, Thomas BILLINGS, Francis ROSE, Wm. SHELTON. John YATES, Issac GROSS, Thomas SMITH, Edward SMITH & John SMITH, Edward & Joseph SHORT do clear and keep said road in repair.   Peter PERKINS is appointed Surveyor of the Road from Sandy Ck. to the county line, he and his male laboring tithables and those of William BEAN, Gideon MARR, Robert HOOKER, John HARDAMAN, James DENTON, Henry STONE, John CHADWELL, George RUSSELL, Wm. DUNKEN, Edward CAHILL, Issac SWEATON(?), James DUNKEN and Valentine GIBSON, are to clear and keep road in repair.   Jonathan WOODSON is appointed Surveyor of the Raod from Fall Ck. to the middle Fork of Sandy Ck. he along with his male laboring tithables, and those belonging to Samuel HARRIS, Jacob CERTAIN, Brnjamin LAWLESS, Lawrence BARKER, Wm. BARKER, Thomas AYERS, James CARGILL, Wm. HOLDER and the gang that formerly worked on said road, to clear & keep said road in repair. JUNE Ct. 1763    Alexander CALDWELL is appointed Survey or the road from Bannister Ford to the Halifax courthouse, Alexander and the gang belonging to the said road to keep clear and in good repair. JULY Ct. 1763    Ordered that Nathaniel ABBEY, Surveyor of Hunts Ferry Road below Catawaba Ck with the gang under his direction, open a road from said Hunts to VAUGHANS Ford. Benjamin ABBOT is appointed Surveyor of the road from Difficult Ck. to CHANDLERS bridge exclusively, Benjamin and the male laboring tithables above said bridge, to clear and keep in repair. Marston GREEN appointed Surveyor of the road from CHANDLERS Bridge inclusively, to Terrible Ck. by RUSSELLS, he and male laboring tithables to clear and keep in repair. AUGUST Ct. 1763 Thomas GREEN, Wm. HOSKINS & James BATES, Gent, who were yeaterday appointed to view the prison built by George WATKINS, this day came into Courtand reported that they had carefully viewed the same, which they beleive was built in a strong & workmanlike manner and that said WATKINS might put 2 strong locks and bolts to the doors and put a few more blocks under the sills of the house. James McKENDREES's ordinary license is renewed for 1 year, Clement READ his security. OCTOBER Ct. 1763 John PIGG is given leave to build a water grist mill on Bannister River on the land where he now lives, he having land on both sides of the River. Thomas DOUGLASS is appointed Surveyor of the Road from Pole Bridge on Mirey Ck. and said Thomas and his male laboring tithables and those belonging to Scare TORIAN, Peter TORIAN, Andrew TORIAN, Andrew McCOOL, Sylvester JUNEL, Patrick BOYD, John DOUGLASS, Mark THOMAS, Alexander DOUGLASS, Wm. YOUNGER, George BOYD, Benjamin HARRISON, Jacob EVANS and James DAVENPORT do clear and keep the road in repair. FEB. Ct. 1764 Nathaniel BARKSDALE is granted a license to keep a Ferry in Halifax from his landing to the land of James HUNT in CHARLOTTE Co. and it is ordered that said Nathaniel do keep one good boat and 2 hands constantly to attend the said Ferry. James STEWART is appointed Surveyor of the road from his ferry to Difficult Bridge. John SCURLOCK is appointed Surveyor from the fork below the courthouse to Bannister Bridge. MARCH Ct. 1764 Jeremiah PATE is appointed Surveyor of the Road from Mirey Ck. to Green Bridge over Bannister River, he and his male laboring tithables and those of, John MOORE, Garrot FITZGERALD, Jacob EVANS, Benjamin HARRISON, George BOYD, Adam WINDERS, James OWEN, Joseph LAND, Evan RAGLAND, Joshua EPPS, John DICKIE, Richard DANIEL, Wm. KERLEY, John NORTHERN, Solomon OWEN, Edward OWEN, Richard ECHOLS, David POWELL, Wm. GENT, Ezekial SLAUGHTER, and James DAVENPORT do clear and keep said road in repair. John MARTIN's license to keep an ordinary in the town of PEYTONSBERG is renewed for 1 year, his security is John DONELSON. JUNE Ct. 1764 Partick BOYD is appointed Surveyor from Boyds Ferry to David WALLS Ford on Bannister River and it is ordered that he with the white laboring tithables at the Quarter of Peter RANDOLPH, Esq., Peter TORIN and his, Andrew McCOOL and his, William BOYD, Sylvester JUNET, and John ARMSTRONG do forthwith clear and keep road in repair. George BOYD (son of Patrick) is appointed Surveyor from Boyds Ck to Hico Ck. down the River Dan and it is ordered that he with the following male tithables, James BOYD and his, John BOYD (son of Patrick), Hampton WADE, tithables of Robert WADE, dec'd., Joel HEMBRE, Francis LOVESAY, Francis TUCKER, Obadiah SMITH, John SULLIVAN, Henry PICKETT, Joel WHIT, and Wm. GRIFFITH do clear and keep in repair.
