Halifax Co. Orphans/bound children 1760-62 (part 1) Dec. Ct. 1759 Ordered that the Church Wardens of Antrim parish bind William GREGORY, orphan of Philemon GREGORY to Thomas DILLARD, Gent. ALSO: to bind out children of Thomas HINTON, it appearing that he is not able to bring them up in Christian principals. Feb. Ct. 1760 The former order to bind the HINTON children is annulled, they are to be bound out to Ephiram HILL and James WOOD. Ordered the Churchwardens to bind two of the children of Martha ELLIS to Abraham MAURY & Thomas GREEN, Gent. Ordered that the Churchwardens do bind out John COX, orphan of William COX, dec'd, to William WRIGHT. March Ct. 1760 Ordered that the Churchwardens of Antrim Parish do bind Elisabeth and Walter, children of William WATERS, to Thomas WATERS & William and Ruth, two other children of said William, to Robert WATERS. Martha, the wife of Robert HUTCHINSON, came into court and made oath that her daughter, named NANCY, age 3 last July 19, was begotten on her body by John PHILLIPS, since deceased. May Ct. 1760 Mathews FLOURNOY is appointed guardian of John Pryor SMITH, Lemuel SMITH and Peggy SMITH, orphans of Charles SMITH, dec'd. Ordered that the Churchwardens do bind Margaret, daughter of Ann OZBROOK, to David LAWSON. On the motion of Ann OZBROOK, for reasons appearing, it is ordered that David LAWSON be summoned to answer her complaint of him misusing her child, in his custody. The Churchwardens to bind out Cary ALLEN, the daughter of Alice SLOAN to John WATSON. June Ct. 1760 JEMMY a Negro boy belonging to Wm. THOMAS, is adjudged to be age 13 years. CLOE, a Negro girl also belonging to THOMAS, is adjudged age 13 years. July Ct. 1760 Churchwardens to bind out William DAVIS, a bastard child, to Ephiram HALL. August Ct. 1760 Peter FOUNTIAN Jr., Gent. guardian of David HUDSON, failing to render an account of his ward's Estate, an attachment is awarded aganist him for contempt. William MURPHY, also failing to render and account, as guardian of Keziah and Peniah SMITH. Wm. SATTERWHITE, also failing to render an account of his ward, John MORTON. John Frederick MILLER, guardian of John GOFF, also failing to render an account. Sept. Ct. 1760 Ordered the Churchwardens do bind out John GOFF, orphan of Charles GOFF, dec'd. William MURPHY, guardian of Keziah & Peninah SMITH, orphans of Gideon SMITH, dec'd, returned an account of said ward's estate. Nov. Ct. 1760 John GREEN, orphan of William GREEN, dec'd, came into court and made choice of his guardian as Champness TERRY. Ordered that George ABNEY, to whom Ann & Sarah VALENTINE, poor orphans, were bound [to], by the Churchwardens, appear next court to produce the indentures by which said orphans were bound. Feb. Ct. 1761 Robert WOODING, Gent. is appointed guardian of James, Alexander, Andrew & Molly, orphans of William McGINNESS, dec'd. William McGINNESS, orphan of Wm. McGINNESS, dec'd, made choice of his guardian as Henry WADE. Ordered the Churchwardens of Antrim Parish do bind the children of George PENDLETON, it appearing that said George is unable to support and educate them in a Christian principals. JOE a Negro boy of Filmer WELLS is adjudged to be age 13.
