Reeves of the County of Halifax, State of Virginia, have by these presents appointed the said William H. Reeves my whole and sole attorney in fact for me and to my use ask, sue for, seek and recover from all persons whatsoever all such sums of money or other property both personal and real as may be coming or due to me by the death of the said William Reeves, Sen. and I do hereby authorize and empower my said attorney in fact one or more attorneys at law to appoint under him to act and do and again at his pleasure to revoke and discharge and acquittance to give which said actings and doing I do and will forever warrant and defend to be good and valid to all intents and purposes in a full and ample manner as I might could or would have done were I personally present to all intents and purposes – In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 4th day of September 1822. Royster Halifax County towit We Richard Thornton & Peter Reves Magistrates for the County aforesaid do hereby certify that Charles Reeves party to the within Power of Attorney came before us in our said County and acknowledged the same to be his hand and --- act and deed and requested us to certify his acknowledgement aforesaid to the Clerk of our said County in order to be Recorded. Given under our hands and seals this 4th day of Sept. 1822. Richard Thornton (Seal) Peter Reeves (Seal) Virginia towit I Samuel Williams Clerk of the County Court of Halifax do hereby certify that Richard Thornton and Peter Reves whose signatures is affixed to the foregoing certificate are acting Magistrates in the said County of Halifax duly commissioned and qualified as such. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of the said County at Office this 6th day of September in the year of Christ 1822 and 47th of the Commonwealth. Samuel Williams (Seal) Virginia towit I James Dejamett presing (sic presiding) Magistrate in the said County of Halifax do hereby certify that Samuel Williams whose signature is affixed to the foregoing certificate is Clerk of the County Ct. aforesaid and that his attestation is in due form. Reeves to act on his behalf in settling the estate of his father, William Reeves, Senr in Madison County, Kentucky.
