Wimbish, Davis Chalmers, Thomas H. Averett, James Faulkner, John Hughes, William Fitzgerald, William H. Lanier, Charles Draper, John S. Lewellen, Thomas L. Spragens, Charles T. Harris, John T. Clark, James Murphy and John Wilson of the County of Halifax are held and firmly bound unto Littleton W. Tazewell Esqr. Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia for the time being and to his successors in the just & full sum of thirty thousand dollars - the payment of which will and truly to be made to the said Governor and his successors we do bind ourselves our heirs executors and administrators jointly and severally firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this 26th day of January 1836. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Peter Reves is constituted and appointed Sheriff of the County of Halifax by commission from the governor under the seal of the Commonwealth dated the 15th day of December 1835. If therefore the said Peter Reves shall well and truly collect and receive all effects (?) fees and dues put into his hands to collect and duly account for and pay the same to the officers to whom such fees and dues respectively at such times as are prescribed and ordered (sic ?) by law and shall well and truly execute and due return make of all process and processes to him directed and pay and satisfy all sums of money by him secured by virtue of any such process to the person or persons to whom the same are due his or theirs executors administrators or assigns and in all other things shall truly and faithfully execute and perform the said office of Sheriff during the same of his continuance therein then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
