Patents D, p. 134-135 (written in margin) Henry Barnes 115 Acres Examined pg.134 Thomas Jefferson Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to all to whom these presents shall come Greeting: Know ye that in consideration of the Ancient Composition of Fifteen Shillings Sterling paid by Henry Barnes into the Treasury of this Commonwealth there is granted by the Commonwealth unto the said Henry Barnes acertain Tract or parcel of Land containing One hundred and fifteen Acres by Survey bearing date the Eighteenth day of November one thousand Seven hundred and Seventy two, Lying and being in the County of Halifax on Cherrytree creek, and bounded as followeth to wit Beginning at Nowlin's corner pine thence on his line north thirty five degrees west, two hundred and thirty two poles to Echoles's corner red oak: thence on his line East one hundred and ninety two poles to a red oak: thence South fifty five degrees West sixty poles to ared Oak thence South twelve degrees East, one hundred and pg.135 thirty poles to Hick's Line, at pointers: thence a new line South fifty five degrees west; fifty six poles to the beginning (there is a large space here, if anything is written in this space, it is not readable) with its appurtenances: To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land with its Appurtenances, to the said Henry Barnes and his heirs forever. In Witness Whereof the said Thomas Jefferson Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand, and caused the Seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the first day of September in the year of Our Lord One thousand and seven hundred and Eighty and of the Commonwealth the fifth.
