East/Johnson/Ballow Indenture, 1844 Deed Book 49, Page 298 Jan 1844 This indenture made this 22 day of Jan 1844 between Elisha East of the first part John Wilson of the second part and William T Ballow of the third part all of the County of Halifax accd {_____} of Virginia Witnesseth that whereas the said Elisha East is justly indebted to the said John Wilson in the sum of three hundred forty dollars thirty four cents due by bond bearing date with this Indenture {where} the said Elisha East honestly desires to secure and {pay} {_____} for the further consideration of one dollar to him in {_____} paid by the said William T Ballow the recpt whereof is hereby acknowledged {_____} granted bargained and sold {_____} by these presents . . . . . . One tract of land lying in the County of Halifax, adjoining the lands of William T Ballow and others all my stock of Horses cows hogs and sheep all my house hold and kitchen furniture of all descriptions, plantation tools of all descriptions carts wagons & c together with all the rights {_____} and interest which he the said Elisha East has in said property unto the said William T Ballow his heirs & assigns forever against the {_____} or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever w{here} trust nevertheless that the said William T Ballow shall at anytime when required by the said Elisha East or John Wilson proceed to sell to the highest bidding the within mentioned property for ready money after giving a previous public notice of at least ten days and out of the proceeds of such sale first {_____} and satisfy the said John Wilson the debt and interest as aforesaid together with the expenses of {draw}ing and recording this indenture and all other charges which may {attend} the securing of said debt to return the overplus if any to the said Elisha East or his legal representative Inte{_____} whereof the parties have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first herein written his Elisha X East (seal) mark William T.
