Deed, James B. Powell to William J. Powell 
Library of Virginia, Halifax County Virginia Deeds, Book 54, page 218, 21 
May 1851 

Know all men by these presents that I, James B. Powell of Halifax County 
and State of Virginia for the sum of Fifty dollars in hand paid by William 
J. Powell of the State of Virginia, Halifax County the receipt whereof is 
hereby acknowledged hath bargained and sold all my interest both real and 
personal in the estate of my deceased grandfather Mastin Powell agreeable 
with his last will and Testament. The right whereof I warrant and defend 
free from the claim of myself, my heirs and assigns for any person or 
persons claiming under myself whatsoever unto the said William J. Powell 
his heirs and assigns forever in testament whereof I have set my hand and 
seal this 21th <sic> day of May 1851.

Halifax Clerks Office the 26th day of May 1851
The within written deed was presented in the Clerk's office aforesaid and 
proved by the oath of one witness thereto subscribed to be the act & deed 
of the within named James B. Powell. 
Test; William Holt, Clerk
And in the Clerk's office aforesaid on the 24th day of May 1852 The said 
Deed was further proved by the oath of one other witness thereto subscribed 
to be the act & deed of the within named James B. Powell, a party thereto 
and was admitted to record according to Law.
