Powell/Powell Deed, 1851 - Halifax Co. VA Deed, Mastin J. Powell to William J. Powell Library of Virginia, Halifax County Virginia Deeds, Book 54, pages 434-433, 8 August 1851 This indenture made this the 8 of August AD 1851 between Mastin J. Powell of the County of Caswell and State of North Carolina of the one part and William J. Powell of County of Halifax and State of Virginia of the other part. Witnesseth for and in consideration of the sum of fifty Dollars to me in hand paid by the said William J. Powell at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said Mastin Powell doth hereby give, grant, sell and transfer to the said William J. Powell all of the interest in and to the estate of his mother Elizabeth Powell's undivided interest in her father Mastin Powell, deceased, Estate now in the hands of her mother Mary Powell of Halifax County and State of Virginia which she is to hold during her natural life which interest consists of one sixth part of one ninth of said estate to have and to hold the aforesaid interest to him the aforesaid William J. Powell, his heirs and assigns forever free from the claim of him the said Martin Powell of all and every other person or persons whatever. Powell was duly proven before the undersigned as Commissioner aforesaid by the oaths of Carter Powell and James F. Mitchell, two of the subscribing witnesses thereto before me in my State aforesaid.
