Rev. War Pension, Ransome Colquitt, abstracted - Halifax Co. VA Revolutionary War Service and subsequent pensions of Ransom(e) Colquitt and wife, Susanna(h) Baker Ransome Colquitt, born in Halifax Co. in 1752 to Jonathan and Tabitha Ransome Colquitt, served three years in Captain John Watt's company of Light Dragoons (cavalry) attached to the First Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. Theodorick Bland. He fought in the battles at Germantown, Monmouth Courthouse, Brandywine, and White Marsh. He was discharged in Winchester in 1780, but re-enlisted in the same company and served until the end of the war. He was wounded in his right arm and also lost an eye when smallpox swept through the encampment.. After the war, he returned to Halifax Co., and married Susanna(h) Baker in 1785. They then moved just across the border to Rockingham Co., N.C. where they raised 5 children. Ransome applied for a military pension in Nov. 1819 and received $90.00 per year. He died Sept. 22, 1825. Then his widow applied for and received a widow's military pension. Both of their pension applications are filed together at NARA under her name, Widow's Pension W-6742. Susanna died in Kanawha Co., VA. (now W. VA.) in 1845. Her will was probated there in June, 1845. This information taken from: EARLY FAMILIES OF THE N.C.
