Colonel George Boyd, Colonel William Moore, Colonel Richardson. General John Baytop Scott, born in Halifax county in 1761, was sent to school at Hampden-Sidney, but ran away at the age of sixteen to join General Light Horse Harry Lee's Legion, and was made lieutenant. In April, 1805, was made commandant of the district of Mississippi at Cape Girardeau, Mo. (See Army of United States.) He was captain of the "Silver Grays" in-the War of 1812, and brigadier general of State troops in Governor Floyd's administration. Was a member of the Cincinnati and candidate for Congress without opposition when he died in 1813. He married in Halifax county, 1785, Patsy Thompson, daughter of William and Rachel Thompson. He had previously married her cousin, Elizabeth Coleman, sister of Hon. Henry Coleman, of this county. They left no issue. John B. Scott and his last wife, Patsy (Thompson) Scott, had nine children, all married and scattered throughout the Southern States. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
