Shackleford, John              Pen. 377                       1786-1788

CONTRIBUTOR'S NOTE:
Documents very small writing and hard to read, but was able to glean that 
Shackleford was injured at a siege in Georgia and was wounded by a ball going 
through near the elbow of the right arm, greatly reducing use because it 
affected the joint.


I do with the advice of Council hereby certify that Samuel Selden about 24 years 
of age late a private in the Virgina State Regiment appears to have been 
disabled in such a manner while in the service of the United States by a ball 
that passed through the elbow of the right arm which occasioned the withering of 
the arm and that he is entitled to the sum of twelve pounds yearly; which 
allowance is accordingly made him to commence from the first day of January 
1786.  Given under my hand as Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, at 
Richmond, this 15th day of November 1786.
