JENNINGS Rosa D. Jennings of Nathalie died March 26, 1998 at her home at the age of 96. Mrs. Jennings was born in Halifax County on February 28, 1902 the daughter of Pearl Dennis and was married to Hubert Thomas Jennings. Survivors include five daughters, Thelma Carr, Angeline Boyd and Lorrine Jones, all of Nathalie, Patty Carrington of Alexandria, and Elizabeth Palmer of the home; three sons, Hubert Jennings of Nathalie, Louis Jennings of Woodbridge and Willie Mac Jennings of the home; 75 grandchildren; 151 great-grandchildren; 74 great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Jennings were held Sunday, March 29 at New Shiloh Baptist Church in Nathalie with burial in the church cemetery. ANNA BROWN Anna Brown, 85, of Durham, NC, died March 27, 1998 at Durham Regional Hospital. Mrs. Brown was born in Prince Edward County the daughter of Arnold P. and Mary Katherine Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elisha C. Brown. Burial was at the mausoleum of Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham on March 29. Survivors include two sons, Bobby Brown of Raleigh, NC and Clark Brown of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Mattie Kate Chaffin of South Boston; one brother, Tucker Clark of Disputanta; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. RICHARD ERVIN GLASS Richard Ervin Glass of 1043 Mill Road, Clover died March 26, 1998 at hishome at the age of 57. Mr. Glass was born in Halifax County on May 5, 1940 and attended Revelation Baptist Church. His survivors include three sons: Michael and Daryl Glass of South Boston, Timothy Glass and wife, Robin of Clover; sister: Rebecca Satterfield of Clarksville; brother: Carter Glass of Clarksville and two grandsons: Paul and Eric Glass of Clover. A graveside service was held Saturday, March 28 in Winns Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Rudolph Jacobs officiated. GWENDOLYN ANN DARDEN Gwendolyn Ann Darden of 1130 Rev. Coleman Road, Clover died, March 28, 1998 at the home of her parents in Clover at the age of 45. She was born in New York on June 24, 1952. Ms. Darden was a member of St. Paschal Catholic Church and was employed by Berry Hill Nursing Home. Survivors include one daughter, Delores Dwyer of Philadelphia, PA; two sons, Stanley Wright of New York, NY and Kwasi Darden of Clover; her mother and father of Clover; one sister, Janet Mason of Clover; three brothers, James Darden of Philadelphia, Daniel Darden of New York, NY and Antonio Darden of Scottsburg; one son-in-law, Reginald Dwyer of Philadelphia; four grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. MAUDE COOK COVINGTON Maude Cook Covington of 621 Berry Hill Road, South Boston died March 31, 1998 at Berry Hill Nursing Home. She was 94 years of age. Mrs. Covington was born in Halifax County on March 14, 1904 the daughter of Willie Cook and Maggie Morris Cook and was married to John Thomas Covington. She was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Polly Bradley and Darleen Osborne, both of South Boston; two sons, Clarence Covington and Earl Covington, both of South Boston; one sister, Virgie Rose of Zanesville, OH; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. HARVEY TARVISH COLE Harvey Tarvish Cole of 4197 Old Cluster Springs Road, South Boston died Tuesday, March 31, 1998 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was 53 years of age. Mr. Cole was born June 29, 1944 in Halifax County the son of Howard Cole and Clevie W. Cole and was married to Emily Joan Cole. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, an Honorary member of the Cluster Springs Volunteer Fire Department, and was a retired Correctional Officer, Camp 23 Department of Corrections. Funeral services will be held at Brooks Funeral Home chapel Thursday, April 2 at 11 a.m. with Revs. Jack Stewart and Grover Stevens conducting the service. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge Christian Church Cemetery in Chatham. Surviving Mr. Cole are his mother of South Boston; one daughter, Anita C. Collins of Mt. April 3, 1998 LLOYD BYRD LINK Lloyd Byrd Link of 129 Glendale Drive, South Boston died Tuesday, March 31, 1998 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 70. Mr. Link was born in Halifax County on October 11, 1927 the son of Henry Link and Lois Crawley Link and was married to Mamie Lee Link. He was a member of Mayo Grove Baptist Church and was an honorable discharged United States Army Veteran. Surviving Mr. Link are his wife of the home; four daughters, Jessie Link, Jean Gomes, Doretha Kirby and Gladys Strange, all of South Boston; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Bowman and Vanessa Murphy, both of Alton; one brother, Henry Link of Alton; two sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law, and other relatives and friends. He was 45 years of age at the time of his death. Mr. Doss was born in South Boston on November 23, 1952 the son of Herbert Thomas Doss and Virginia Rickman Doss and was married to Cynthia Meade Doss. KATHRYN DALE MOOREFIELD Kathryn Dale Moorefield of 2701 Indale Road, Glen Allen died April 2, 1998 at The Medical College of Virginia at the age of 40. Miss Moorefield was born in South Boston on January 26, 1958 the daughter of Watt J. Moorefield and June W. Moorefield. She was a member of First Baptist Church of South Boston, a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, and a graduate of Longwood College where she was a member of the Kapa Delta Sorority. Miss Moorefield is survived by her mother and father of Scottsburg; one brother, Michael Moorefield of Winchester; and two nieces, Melissa and Miranda Moorefield of Winchester. Mrs. Adkins was born April 29, 1935 in Halifax County the daughter of Frank Thornton Bates and Mary Jones Bates and was married to Carroll Lee Adkins. April 6, 1998 EUNICE JOHNSON BATSCHE Eunice Johnson Batsche, 79, of Snow Hill Drive, Spotsylvania, died Friday, April 3, 1998 at Mary Washington Hospital. She was the wife of Melvin George Batsche. Mrs. Batsche was born in Charlotte County on April 12, 1918, the daughter of Jessie C. Johnson and Araminta Mason Johnson. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church, a retired bookkeeper for O'Connor Vending in Richmond and a Navy Veteran of World War II. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Vince Melton of Spotsylvania; three grandchildren, Heather Wheeler, Hilary Melton, and Vincent Melton, all of Spotsylvania; two great-grandchildren, Danielle Melton, Elizabeth Morgan Wheeler, both of Spotsylvania; one sister, Mrs. Dickie (Maureen) Abbott of Nathalie; and a number of nieces and nephews. FRANK HARVEY BARKSDALE Frank Harvey Barksdale of Alexandria died Tuesday, April 1, 1998 at Alexandria General Hospital at the age of 57. Mr. Barksdale was born in Halifax County on May 5, 1940. Survivors include his wife, Hazel Moorman Barksdale of Alexandria; three sons, Frank Harvey Barksdale Jr. of Richmond, Barry Jerome Barksdale of Hampton, and Antione Devon Barksdale of Alexandria; one grandchild; three sisters, Mary Thompson and Pearl Clements, both of Alexandria and Maria Spooner of South Boston; five brothers, John Barksdale of Ruther Glen, Elmer Barksdale of Orange, NJ, Willie Barksdale of Falls Church, Geoffrey Barksdale of Manassas, and Samuel Barksdale of Alexandria; and other relatives and friends. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery. MARGARET PERKINS CANADA Margaret Perkins Canada of 2903 North Main Street, South Boston died April 3, 1998 at her home. She was 76 years of age at the time of her death. Mrs. Canada was born in Halifax County on January 2, 1922 the daughter of Roskey James Perkins and Lorene Landrum Perkins and was married to James Willis Canada Jr. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday school class for many years. Survivors include one sister, Gladys P. Green of South Boston; two nieces and one nephew. Burial was in Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. RICHARD JORDAN SIZEMORE Richard Jordan Sizemore died at his home, 1900 Hodges Street, South Boston, on April 2, 1998. He was the son of the late Richard William and Georgia Medelia Snead Sizemore. He was born in the Aaron's Creek Community on June 20, 1917 and was 80 years of age at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Bodie Sizemore of the home, and one daughter, Sally Muller and her husband, John, of Greensboro, N. C.; three sons and their wives, Tom and Sue Sizemore, of Gaithersburg, MD., Macon an Caren Sizemore of Richmond, and Dan and Carolyn Sizemore, of Richmond. There are seven grandchildren: Melissa and Kim Muller, Cameron Sizemore, Meredith and Anne Ethridge Sizemore and Rachel and Maria Sizemore. He is survived by one brother, Julian Sizemore, of Halifax. Mr. Sizemore was a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and led the Brotherhood Establishing the Downtown Friendship Mission. He was a past president of the South Boston Lions Club and an active participant for over 50 years. Ill health forced his recent retirement as a columnist for News & Record writing "Roll Jordan Roll" for he past six years. A memorial services will be held at First Baptist Church Monday, April 6, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends in the church immediately following the service. She was born August 22, 1919 and was the son of Doak D. Horner and Bessie Riley Horner. Mrs. Thomas was a member of McCanless Memorial United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Berry Hill Nursing Home. Survivors include a step-son, Stover B. Thomas, of Richardson, TX; two sisters, Rachel H. Perry, and Margaret H. Terrell, of Hillsbourgh, NC. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence D. Reaves and second husband, Stover B. A native of Granville County, NC she was the daughter of Eugene and Lela Hobgood Faucette, a member of Stovall Baptist Church, and retired from Granville County Extension Service. SHIRLEY REDMAN LONG Shirley Redman Long of Roxboro, NC died Sunday, April 5, 1998 in Person County Memorial Hospital. She was 60 years of age at the time of her death. Mrs. Long was a native of Person County, NC the daughter of German W. Redman and Hallie Carver Redman. She was a member of Triple Springs Baptist Church and an employee of Revlon in Oxford, NC. Moses Nathaniel Dixon Sr. of 3006 Clover Road, Randolph died Sunday, April 5, 1998 at Duke University Medical Center at the age of 72. Mr. Dixon was born in Halifax County on August 7, 1925 the son of Henry Haley Dixon and Mary Street Dixon and was married to Mary Acree Dixon. He was a member of Traynham Grove Baptist Church, and was an Honorable Discharged United States Army Veteran. April 13, 1998 JOHN HOWARD TUCKER John Howard Tucker of Vernon Hill died Saturday, April 4, 1998 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 35. Mr. Tucker was born in Lynchburg on March 7, 1963. He was 74 years old. Born April 13, 1923 in Halifax County, he was the son of the late Thomas A. Woltz and Lillian Pool Woltz and was married to Mildred Perkins Woltz. An Army veteran, Mr. Woltz was a member of Aarons Creek Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and was the church clerk for 29 years. ELVA ANNIE CURTIS Elva Annie Curtis of 1038 Flashback Str., Halifax died April 23, 1998 at her home at the age of 80. Mrs. Curtis was born on June 8, 1917 in Quebec, Canada to Henry Charles Gustin and Myrtle Fields Gustin. She was married to Sherwood Stinson Curtis. Her survivors include her daughters: Dolly C. Webb of Stafford, Betty C. Hewett of Rochester, IN, Linda Curtis and Dee C. LESLIE PLEASANT BARKSDALE Leslie Pleasant Barksdale of Bronx, NY and formerly of Halifax County, died at the St. Barnabas Hospital in New York at the age of 92. Born in Halifax County on October 13, 1905, he was the son of Pleasant L. Barksdale and Phoebie Anderson-Barksdale. He was a member of the Riverview Baptist Church in Coeysmans, NY and a former member of New Zion Baptist Church, Halifax Co. His survivors include a daughter: Nina Barksdale-Walker of Richmond; son: S. Tyrone Barksdale of Washington, DC; step-children: Norene Houtman and Robert Bostic of New York; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. FLOYD CLAUDEN Floyd Clauden of 1168 Cherry Hill Church Road, South Boston died Friday, April 24, 1998 at his residence at the age of 64. Mr. Clauden was born in Halifax County on May 6, 1933 to Thomas Clauden and Mary Lee Bowman Clauden. He was married to Frances Hill Clauden and was a retired Army veteran. He was a member of Owen's Grove Baptist Church where he served as church treasurer and trustee and was a former employee of the City of South Boston. His survivors include his wife; brother: John Clauden of South Boston; sister-in-law: Shirley Clauden of South Boston, and a devoted niece: Mary Clauden of South Boston. MARTHA TRICKEY THOMAS Martha Trickey Thomas of 103 Rosehill Drive, South Boston died Monday, April 27, 1998 at The Woodview. She was 92 years of age at the time of his death. Mrs. Thomas was born October 6, 1905 in Halifax County the daughter of Henry Nathan Trickey and Elizabeth Shotwell Trickey and was married to L.Z. Thomas. She was a lifetime member of Harmony United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at Harmony United Methodist Church today, April 29 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Harvey Warnick officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. KEVIN LEE JENNINGS Kevin Lee Jennings of 5131 Chestnut Road, Nathalie died Tuesday, April 28, 1998 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was 14 years of age at the time of his death. He was born in Halifax County on May 20, 1983 the son of Ronnie Lee Jennings and Dale Saunders Jennings. Survivors include his mother and father of Nathalie; one sister, Tabitha Michelle Jennings of Nathalie; his paternal grandmother, Mavis Clay Jennings of Nathalie; and his maternal grandparents, Louis and Barbara Saunders of Nathalie. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Robert Lee Jennings, and one brother, Shawn Michael Jennings. Mr. Pointer was born June 16, 1903 in Cornwall, NY to Priscilla Narcissus (Brandon) and Kelly Pointer. He was married to Sophie Brandon.
