Ms. Clark was the daughter of Willie and Elizabeth Adams Clark and was a member of the Sunflower Baptist Church. Her survivors include her children: Tim Bailey of Lynchburg and Todd, Adriane (Kathy), and Tomecia of the home; grandchildren: Malik and Todd Garnett of the home; sisters: Nancy Bailey of Colorado Springs, CO, Kathleen Tucker of Virgilina and Martha Clark of Washington, DC; and a brother: Willie Howard Clark of Columbus, OH. A funeral service was held Sunday, January 31 with the Rev. Chester Spruill presiding. Interment was in the church cemetery. Sam Elwood Coleman Sam Elwood Coleman of 2146 Howard P. Anderson Rd., Halifax, died January 30, 1999 at the Berry Hill Nursing Home at the age of 89. Mr. Coleman was born in Halifax County on April 8, 1909 and was the son of Thomas Coleman and Sadie Henry Coleman. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. His survivors include his sister: Mary C. Hodge of Newport News and other relatives. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 2 at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Olivia Murphy Bowman Mrs. Olivia Murphy Bowman of 7052 Red Bank Road, Virgilina died Thursday, January 28, 1999 at her daughter's residence in Scottsburg at the age of 72. Mrs. Bowman was born on April 4, 1926, the daughter of George and Hattie Murphy. She was married to the Rev. Robert F. Bowman and was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Her survivors include her husband; daughters: Hattie Royster of Rahway, NJ, Barbara Johnson of Virgilina, Novella Jackson of Scottsburg, Ovella Burton of Bronx, NY and Della Phelps of Mansfield, OH; sons: Robert T. Bowman of Danville and Andrew L. Mrs. Harper was born in Halifax County on October 1, 1903 the daughter of Charles Edgar Glass and Fannie Spencer Glass and was married to Glen R. 'Pete' Harper. She was a member of Catawba Baptist Church. Survivors include a devoted nephew, Bobby P. Knowles of Lynchburg; three other nephews, Malcolm H. Knowles, C. Michael Glass and David L. Cosimo Giuffrida Cosimo Giuffrida of 1717 Irish Street, South Boston died Thursday, January 28, 1999 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was 89 years of age. Mr. Giuffrida was born November 1, 1909 in Middletown, CT the son of Joseph and Rosa Giuffrida and was married to Norma Sue Hudson Giuffrida. He was a retired teacher in the New Haven, CT school system and was an Army WWII veteran. He received a Master's Degree in Music and was a professional musician. He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians in Middletown, and the New Haven Federation of Musicians in New Haven. Funeral services were held at Shady Grove United Methodist Church Tuesday, February 2 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Don Davidson conducting the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Miss Hazelwood was born July 30, 1958 in Halifax County the daughter of Thomas June Hazelwood and Ida May Conner Hazelwood. Bailey Highway, Halifax, died Saturday, February 20, 1999 at his home. He was born in Halifax County, on December 29, 1932 and was 66 years old. He was the son of John Berkley Allen and Janie Riddle Allen. He served in the Air Force for four years. Mr. Allen is survived by: three brothers: Thomas Edward Allen, of Amherst; Eugene Lacy Allen, of Richmond; Dennis Bailey and his wife, Verona, of Halifax; one sister-in-law, Barbara Allen. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Lawrence Bowen; two daughters and their husbands, Sheila and Donnie Redman and Donna and John King; five grandchildren, Laura and Aaron Redman, Jason, Justin and Jeffrey King; two sisters, Thelma and Virginia; and five brothers, Chester, Weldon, Emmett, Lindy and Aubrey. Willie Lee Stovall Willie Lee Stovall of 1516 College Street, South Boston, died February 18 in South Boston at the age of 71. Mr. Stovall was born in Halifax County, on December 17, 1927 and was the son of the late Willie Johnson and Cammie Stovall. He was married to the late Arlene Johnson Stovall and was a member of the White Oak Fork Baptist Church. He was also a Army Veteran. Mr. Stovall is survived by five daughters: Mrs. Diana Boxley, Mrs. Peggy Merritte and Mrs. Brenda Walton, all of South Boston; Ms. Wendy Stovall and Ms. Wanda Stovall, both of Virgilina; one son, Giles Stovall, of South Boston; and 12 grandchildren. Mr. Williams was born in Boydton (Easters Community) January 17, 1916 to the late Pattie Oliver Williams and Thomas Henry Williams. Mr. Williams attended Mecklenburg County Public Schools, was a farmer and employed by the Town of South Hill before retirement. He was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church, Chase City.
