Fred Howard Tucker Sr. Rev. Fred Howard Tucker Sr., 59, of 1109 Dudley Road, Halifax died October 28, at his home. Rev. Tucker was born in Halifax county on March 24, 1940, the son of Issac Tucker and Maggie Holt Tucker and was married to Loraine Judkins Tucker. He was a member of Crystal Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Tucker served as pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Mecklenburg County, and was also an instructor at Halifax County Senior High School. He also served as moderator of the Bluestone Harmony Baptist Church Association. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Diana Tucker Scott of Halifax and Patricia T. King of Rockingham, N.C.; three sons, Fred Howard Tucker Jr. of Halifax, Matthew O'Neal Tucker of Richmond, and Acey Nelson Tucker of South Boston; five sisters, Gracie Clark of Halifax, Margaret Lawson and Maggie Thompson, both of New York, Martha Tucker and Gladys Bouldin, both of Halifax; and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services for Rev. Tucker were held October 31, at 11:00 a.m. at Crystal Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Louis Leigh officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Robert L. Watson Robert L. Watson Jr., 79, of Washington, DC died October 27, 1999, at The Hospice Center of Northern Virginia. Mr. Watson was born in Philadelphia, Penn. on April 9, 1920, the son of Robert L. Watson Sr. and Mary Scott Watson and was married to Martha A. Watson. Survivors include his wife; one son, Robert Watson III; one stepdaughter, Barbara J. Darby of Washington; two stepsons, Cedric Martin of South Boston and Norman Randolph Martin of Arlington; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Linder Martin of South Boston and Emma Jane Martin of Halifax; and one son-in-law, Vincent Darby. Richard Wade Duffer Richard Wade "Rink" Duffer of Burlington, N.C. died Saturday, October 30 at Hospice Home. He was born in Charlotte County to the late Simmie Harris Duffer and the late Mary Fitz Duffer and was married to Blanche Lacks Duffer, who survives. Mr. Duffer was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Duffer is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Adams of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a son, Roy H. Duffer of Haw River, N.C.; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Duffer Long of Burlington and a brother, Maylon Harris Duffer of Graham, N.C. Mrs. Holt was born in Clover on September 28, 1917, the daughter of Harry Howard Snead and Virginia Bomar Snead and was married to Edward Seddon 'Ted' Holt. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. Ms. Jordan was born in Halifax County on November 8, 1904, the daughter of Edward Jordan and Belle Jordan. She was a former member of St. Michael AME Church in South Boston. One brother, John I. Elizabeth Bailey Beard Elizabeth Bailey Beard, age 65, of Wendell, N.C., formerly of South Boston, died November 5, 1999, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, N.C. Mrs. Beard was born in Wilmington, Del., the daughter of Marcellus French Carrington and Ruth Sevier Hale. She was a member of Dan River Baptist Church and the North Haven Church of Raleigh. She was a registered nurse for over 40 years, 26 of those at Halifax Regional Hospital. November 10, 1999 Katherine Edmondson Hopper Katherine Edmondson Hopper, age 91, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Fairfax, died November 6, 1999, at Johnson Willis Hospital in Richmond. Mrs. Hopper was born in Halifax County on June 9, 1908, the daughter of Richard Allen Edmondson and Sallie Anne Ballow Edmondson. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in South Boston, and was active in Truro Episcopal Church in Fairfax. Mrs. Hopper graduated from Mary Washington College Phi Beta Kapa and later received her doctorate. She taught in the Fairfax County school system for 40 years, and was director of guidance for the school system. Remaining closely associated with Mary Washington College, she was director of the Governors School for the Gifted and was a former member of the Board of Directors. In recognition of her service, the college awarded her an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters in 1984, and elected her to honorary membership in Phi Beta Kappa. She was also honored by the college's Alumni Association with its Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1979, and its Service Award in 1997. She was a past president of the Virginia Education Association. Survivors include one niece, Frances Katherine Stevens Ferguson of Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of Halifax County; one nephew, William Howard Tulloh of Midlothian, formerly of Halifax County; two great nieces, Karen T. Mr. Hill was born in Halifax County on September 9, 1913, the son of John William Hill and Abigail Thomas Wyatt Hill. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Republican Grove, a charter member of Volens American Legion Post 342, and an Army Veteran of World War II.
