Bailey Memorial Hwy., Halifax, died March 30, 2000 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mr. Garber was born in Halifax County on September 15, 1922, the son of James Milton and Maude Wilkerson Garber. He was married to Bertha Rutledge Garber. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Millstone where he was a deacon and was a World War II veteran. His survivors include his wife; two sons: Dr. Darrell Garber of Fort Thomas, Ky., Phillip Garber of Charlottesville; four brothers: Stuart Garber of Berkley Springs, W.Va., Garland Lee and Bobby Garber of Halifax, Norman Garber of South Boston; two sisters: Alice Rozylia King of Swansboro, N.C., Mary Lou Mills of Nathalie; and two step-children: Mary Ann Satterfield of Halifax and Warren Rutledge of Red Oak. A funeral service was held Sunday, April 2 at First Baptist Church of Millstone with the Rev. Bob Watts and Rev. Richard Welch officiating. Burial took place in the church cemetery. Bernard E. Watlington Bernard E. Watlington, 64, of 3815 Valerie NE, Albuquerque, N.M., died March 30, 2000. Mr. Watlington was born in South Boston on July 5, 1935, the son of Junius Adelbert Sr. and Carrie Ratliff Watlington. He was married to Barbara Jean (Bobbie) Watlington. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years and worked for Northrop Grumman as an engineer. His survivors include his wife; five children: Sherry Sly and husband Leonard, Kimberly Menegus and husband Ray, Trish Wall-Watlington, Jay Watlington and wife Debbie, Neal Watlington and wife Swarupa; eight grandchildren; his mother of South Boston; brother, Tom Watlington and wife Linda of South Boston and sister, Jean Webb and husband Henry of Hopewell. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 5 at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites. The Rev. Doug Martin will officiate. Louise Crews West Louise Crews West, 91, of 3002 West Store Road, Nathalie, died Saturday, April 1, 2000 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. West was born in Halifax County on July 20, 1908, the daughter of Burmah D. and Ola Puckett Crews. She was married to Herman Allen West and was a member of the Hunting Creek Baptist Church and a charter member of the Staunton River Garden Club. Her survivors include a daughter: Sylvia W. Riddle of Halifax; son: Thomas E. West of Nathalie; three granddaughters: Debbie Shotwell and Ginger Owen of South Boston, Jane Reeves of Wake Forest, N.C.; grandson: Bill Riddle of Concord, N.C.; six great-grandchildren; three sisters: Edith Canada of Clover, Catherine Parker of Bedford and Cynthia Kendrick of Nathalie. His survivors include his parents, Mell L. and John W. McRae; two brothers: Anthony Waller and John McRae; sister: Yolanda McRae and grandmother: Helen McRae, all of Washington, D.C. The body will lie-in-sate one hour prior to the service. April 5, 2000 Patricia Oxford West Patricia Oxford West, age 57, of Lenoir, N.C., died April 2, 2000, at her home. Mrs. West was born November 22, 1942, in Caldwell County, N.C. to Sylvia Cannon Oxford and Wade H. Oxford. She was a member of High Peak Baptist Church in Drexel, N.C. Survivors include her mother of Hudson, N.C.; three sons, Andy Hall of Hudson, Tony West and Dale West, both of Drexel; two brothers, Michael W. Oxford of Hudson and Allen Oxford of South Boston; one sister, Brenda Triplett of Hudson; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and one granddaughter, Shea Hall. Mr. Seckman was born in Charlotte County on November 16, 1934, the son of Donald Parker Seckman Sr. and Beulah Mae Johnson Seckman and was married to Clara Jane Fannon Seckman. He was a member of Brookneal Baptist Church, a former member of the Brookneal Volunteer Fire Department, a Marine Corp Veteran and a retired employee of Babcock-Wilcox-NNFD. Mrs. Hall was born in Lunenburg County on April 17 1919, the daughter of John Jennings and Melinda Wilkins Jennings Washington and was married to Garfield Hall. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and the owner of Edna Hall Beauty Shop. Survivors include three daughters, Bettie H. Faulkner and Miriam H. Carrington, both of South Boston and Rachel H. Paniel of Alexandria; two sons, Elder Edwin G. Hall of South Boston and David C. Hall of Virginia Beach; 19 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. The family will receive friends at the home. George Thomas Carrington George Thomas 'Peter' Carrington, age 55, of Salisbury, N.C., formerly of Halifax County, died in Salisbury recently. Mr. Carrington was born in Halifax County on May 18, 1944, the son of George Carrington and Pauline Tuck Carrington and was married to Florence Polk Carrington. Survivors include his wife; four sisters, Odell Carrington, Louella Yancey and Carolyn Barnett, all of Alton and Paula Burrell of Temple Hills, Md.; one brother, Harold R. Carrington of Alton; and his mother- and father-in-law, Virgil Polk and Robert Polk of Salisbury. April 7, 2000 Audrey Jane Hendricks Guillory Audrey Jane Hendricks Guillory, age 73, of Willis, Texas, died March 3, 2000. She was the daughter of the late Cabell and Lucy Tuck Hendricks and the granddaughter of Ernest and ADel Elliott Tuck and Charles and Hallie Hendricks. She grew up in the Virgilina area and graduated from Virgilina High School. She was retired from Gordon Jewelers in Houston, Texas. Surviving are: her husband, Doyel Sidney Guillory; one son, Doyel Guillory Jr. of Carmichael, Calif.; two daughters, Auburn Ray Guillory of Houston and Linda Guillory DuBose of Conroe, Texas; a brother, Glenn Hendricks of Richmond; and a sister, Margery H. Lula Tucker Davidson Lula Tucker Davidson, age 83, of Brookneal, died April 5, 2000. Mrs. Davidson was born in Campbell County on August 7, 1916, the daughter of Thomas Randolph Tucker and Mary Elizabeth Mason Tucker and was married to Jessie Walker Davidson. She was a member of Falling River Baptist Church where she was active in the Sunshine Sunday school class, bible study and prayer groups. She was retired from Campbell County Schools. Survivors include one son, Jimmy M. Davidson and his wife, Juanita of Gladys; two daughters, Dale Carwile and her husband, L.K. of Rustburg and Dianne Padgett and her husband, Bobby of Lynchburg; two brothers, Harry Tucker and wife, Marion of Brookneal and Johnnie Tucker and wife, Elizabeth of Gladys; two sisters, Mary Ann Cash of South Boston and Beck Andrews and husband, Jimmy of Charlotte Courthouse; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Marshall Thomas Davidson. Caroline Hedderly Canada Matze Caroline Hedderly Canada Matze, age 74, of Lennig, died April 5, 2000. Mrs. Matze was born at Lennig on June 29, 1925, the daughter of Beverly Thomas Canada and Hallie Tuck Canada and was married to Mervin Linn Matze. She was a member of Catawba Baptist Church and the WMU, and was the former Lennig-Nathalie Homemaker's Club president. She was also a m ember of the VFW Post 8243 Ladies Auxiliary and the Halifax Woman's Club. She worked as agent at Lennig for the Norfolk & Western Ry. Co. for 17 years and was postmaster for four years. She did private nursing as a GNA for 30 years. After retiring, she was curator of the South Boston-Halifax County Historical Museum for four years. Survivors include four daughters and one son: Vivian M. Kidder of Fayetteville, WV, Amy M. Duncan of St. Louis, Mo., Susan M. Cheever of South Boston, Mary Jo M. Lewis of Oak Level and Melvin Thomas Matze of South Boston; and eight grandchildren: Laura Kidder and Sarah Kidder, both of Fayetteville, Matthew Duncan and Hannah Duncan, both of St. Louis, Courtney Caroline Cheever Carrie Cheever, Mel Matze and Megan Matze, all of South Boston. Mrs. Beverly was born in Halifax County the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Edmunds and was married to Eugene Beverly Sr. She was a former member of New Vernon Baptist Church. Jackson, age 98, of South Boston, died April 5, 2000, at The Woodview. Mrs. Jackson was born in Halifax County on November 28, 1901, the daughter of John and Mary Harris and was married to Thomas Jackson. Survivors include her son, Thomas N. Jackson of Richmond; one brother, James Harris of Reading, Penn.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren, among them a devoted granddaughter, Frances Adams. He was the son of the late William McCraw and Virginia Tune McCraw. Morgan Anderson, Roanoke; one daughter, Cindy Colter, of Las Vegas, NV; three sisters: Mary Barker, Scottsburg; Ann Caune, Charlotte, NC; and Gladys Robey, of Greensboro, NC; and two grandchildren. Mr. Harrison was born in Halifax County the son of John and Setelle Harrison. He was a founding member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he served on the trustee board. He was a veteran of WWII and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors include several stepchildren; and a sister-in-law, Lottie Harrison of New York. Mrs. Coffey was born in Halifax County on December 19, 1921, the daughter of Bennie L. Fears and Mamie Coates Fears and was first married to Frank Erman Ridgway and later to Lloyd Eugene Coffey. She was a member of Childrey Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Suzanne Ridgway of Richmond; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Richard Cook of Topping and Betty and C. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Faye Chitwood Crews of the residence; one daughter, Melissa C. Rigney of Chatham; two sons, Donald Crews and Roger Crews, both of Danville; three step sons, Jonathan Moore, Ashley Moore and Travis Moore, all of Rocky Mt.; his mother of Chatham; one sister, Deborah Ann C. She was a member of Cherry Hill United Methodist Church and was a retiree of The Woodview. Wood of Washington, W.Va.; two daughters, Janice Lucas of Mineral Wells, W.Va. and Olivia W. Molineux of Williamsburg; one sister, Marie Brackett of Anson, Me.; ten grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She was born on March 31, 1922 in Mullins, West Virginia, and was the daughter of Holt Easley Hankins and Minnie June Bailey Hankins. She was the wife of the late John Blanks Mills and was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Halifax. She was an avid bridge player. She retired, as a Public Service Specialist, from the Division of Motor Vehicles in 1992, after 17 years of service and was formerly employed for Curtis Motor Co., of Lee Hall, for many years.
