She was born in Halifax County on September 3, 1927 and was 72 years old. She was the daughter of William Robert Hackney and Mozelle Gravitt Hackney. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and a retired employee of J. P. Stevens. Mrs. Johnson is survived by two step-daughters: Nancy J. Hackney, of South Boston and Brenda J. Parrish, of Danville; two step-sons: R. C. Johnson, Jr., of Clarksville; and Michael R. Johnson, of Roxboro, NC; one brother: William G. Hackney, of South Boston; one sister: Shirley H. Comer, of Haymarket and a nephew, Timothy A Hackney, of Alton; also nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Champion Johnson, Sr. and a brother, Aaron M. Swanson Mclver Waller Swanson McIver Waller of 1517 Moore Street, South Boston, died July 1, 2000 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax County, on August 26, 1909 and was 90 years old. Mr. Waller was the son of Dr. Robert Floyd Waller and Mrs. Lelia Brown Waller and was married to Jessie Hodnett Waller. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He was also a member of the Faulkner Memorial Masonic Lodge #91, the South Boston Shrine Club, the South Boston Lions Club, and a former member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Waller is survived by two daughters: Ella W. Nargele and her husband, Lt. Col. USMC (Ret.) Dominik George Nargele, of Arlington; and Lelia Belle Waller, of Arlington. July 5, 2000 William Fredrick "Bill" Bonnett Jr. William Frederick "Bill" Bonnett Jr., 81, of Winchester, died Saturday, July 1, 2000 in Winchester Medical Center. Mr. Bonnett was born February 21, 1919 in South Boston, the son of William F. and Alleen Hill Bonnett. He was a WWII veteran and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Winchester Moose Lodge No. 1283, VFW Post 2123 and the Virginia Tech Hokie Club. He was married to Sue Matthews. His survivors include his wife; a daughter: Laura Scott Bonnett of Richmond; son: William F. Bonnett III of Winchester; stepdaughter: Joyce Hamman of Winchester; two stepsons: Boyd Hamman of Winchester and Mathew Hamman of Richmond; sister: Kitty Hockman of Winchester and two grandchildren. He was a member of Berea Advent Christian Church, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1938 and the BPO Elks Lodge #1988. Born May 9, 1910 in Henry County, he was the son of thel ate John Abram Crews and Georgia Morris Crews. Crews worked as an electrician at DuPont for 33 years before retiring, and he was a charter member of the Lynwood Golf and Country Club. He was a member and former deacon at Forest Hills Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, Myrtle W. Crews of the home; two daughters, Jackie Crews Ward of Brandon, Miss. and Judy G. Crews of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, George R. Crews, Jr. of Emporia, formerly of South Boston, where he was a golf professional at Greens Folly Country Club, and John A. Crews of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Preceding Mr. Crews in death were three sisters, Ewell Holt, Katie Crews Clifton and June Crews Whitlow. Wilbur William Gordon Wilbur William "Bill" Gordon, 93, of Fieldale died Friday, July 7 at his home. He was born October 5, 1906 and was the son of the late Jim Nick Gordon and Cora Owens Gordon. He was married to Pearl Beasley Gordon. Mr. Gordon was retired from Henry County School System and was a WWII Army veteran. He was a member of Fieldale Baptist Church, a charter member of the Fieldale Volunteer Fire Department, having served as fire chief, and was a member of Bassett American Legion. Survivors of Mr. Gordon include his wife of the home; one daughter, Betty Lou Gordon Crews of Emporia; and one son, William Mac Gordon of Fieldale. He was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters. Graveside services will be held at Roselawn Burial Park at 11:00 a.m. today with the Rev. Richard Harrison officiating. Mrs. Traynham was born in Halifax County August 11, 1920 and was the daughter of the late Willie Farmer and Rena Williams Farmer. She was married to the late Robert Traynham and was a member of the Five Forks Baptist Church. Mr. Lester was born in Halifax County on July 5, 1909 the son of John Thomas Lester Sr. and Mary "Mamie" Susan Dickens Lester and was married to Helen Howard Lester. He was a member of Center United Church of Christ and a retired tobacco buyer for Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company. July 19, 2000 Gene Bernard Creasy Gene Bernard Creasy, age 72, of Richmond, formerly of Clarksville, died July 17. A longtime radio and television broadcaster, Creasy brought major-market programming to many rural Southside Virginia residents by building, along with his family, WLCQ, the first radio station in Clarksville, while managing WMEK in Chase City. Funeral services for Mr. Creasy will be at 12:30 p.m. July 20 at Bliley Funeral Home in Richmond with burial at Westhampton Memorial Park.
