Terry's Bridge Road, Halifax, died May 31, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. Brown was born in Halifax County on May 31, 1919, the daughter of George Monroe Perkins and Lou Kate Perkins and was married to Donald Aylor Brown. She was a member of the South Boston Church of God. Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Allen Satterfield of Cluster Springs and Jean Brown Tanner of Richmond; two sons, George Allen Brown of Charlotte, N.C. and David Wayne Brown of Halifax; one sister, Louise P. Rinehardt of South Boston; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Brown will be held Sunday, June 4 at 4 p.m. at South Boston Church of God with the Rev. Elizabeth Fisher Guill Elizabeth Fisher Guill, age 59, of 1109 Newton Farm Road, South Boston, died May 31, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. Guill was born in Campbell County on February 7, 1941, the daughter of Hudnell O. Fisher Sr. and Helen Moses Fisher. She was a member of Fork Baptist Church and a retired seamstress with Daystrom. Funeral services will be held at Brooks Funeral Home June 3 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Charles Stewart officiating. Mr. Link was born in Halifax County on June 21, 1943, the son of Henry Link and Martha Lou Link and was married to Mary Lee Link. He attended Southside Baptist Church. Mr. Shields was born in Halifax County, on January 29, 1929 and was 71 years old. He was the son of Edward Thomas Shields and Dolly Moore Shields Barbour. Mr. Shields is survived by: one brother: Edward Louis Shields, of Newport News; two sisters: Betty Shields Moorefield, of Newport News; Shirley S. Marjorie White Faucette Marjorie White Faucette of 1195 East Hyco Road, South Boston, died Saturday, June 3, 2000 at her home. She was born in Oxford, NC on April 25, 1937 and was 63 years old. Mrs. Faucette was the daughter of Joseph R. White and Ernestine F. White and was married to Gene Taylor Faucette. She was a active member of First Baptist Church, a Brownie Scout Leader for many years and served on the Halifax County Improvement Council and a tutor for the Halifax County/South Boston Volunteer Literacy Program. Mrs. Faucette is survived by her husband, Gene Taylor Faucette, of South Boston; one daughter and her husband, Alice F. and Frank (Tony) Wayne, of Hanover; one grandson, Christian A. Mr. Satterfield was the son of William Walter Satterfield and Mrs. Maggie Mae Jones Satterfield and was married to Mildred Carr Satterfield. He was a member of the Liberty United Church of Christ and an Army World War II Veteran. Mr. Satterfield is survived by: his wife, Mildred Carr Satterfield, of Farmville; three daughters: Joice S. Mr. Wright was born November 3, 1930, in Halifax County, the son of Joe L. Wright and Ollie Barksdale Wright. He was a farmer, but had been disabled for the past nine years, and was a member of Clover Bottom Baptist Church. She graduated with honors from Asbury Park High School in 1942, and was married to James Harold Bowen. She was active in her home church, was a past Worthy Grand Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star, a Cub Scout pack leader, insurance secretary, hospital volunteer and homemaker, initially in Belmar and Wanamassa, N.J. and then in Buffalo Junction, State College, Penn. and finally Enumclaw in her retirement years. Surviving Mrs. Bowen is her daughter, Janet Nan Bowen Devlin and her husband, Dr. Dennis Devlin and their two daughters, Sarah and Lauren, all of Enumclaw; one son, Dr. James Harold "Hal" Bowen Jr., his wife, Elaine and daughters, Rebecca and Shannon of Long Neck, Del. and their son, Adam of Phoenix, Ariz. He served on the Board of Trustees of Averett College, was a lifelong Baptist and a member of Kappa Alpha Order Social Fraternity. Henry Christian Zenke II Henry Christian Zenke II, of Greensboro, N.C. and "Tarover," Halifax County, died at his Greensboro home on Saturday, June 17, 2000. Mr. Zenke is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia Ford Zenke; a daughter, Virginia Hawthorne Zenke; and a son, Henry Christian Zenke III, all of Greensboro and "Tarover." Mr. Zenke was born in Richmond Hill, New York, on January 11, 1917. He was one of the three children of Henry Christian and Susan Kohler Zenke of Brooklyn, New York. He attended City College of New York, where he studied engineering, and Pratt Institute. In New York City, he worked for the Associated Press and also for the G. H. Fuller Construction Company, a major contractor. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Weather Service in the United States Army Air Corp., 21st Weather Squadron, in Polbroke and Gloucester, England , and on the continent. He helped found Otto Zenke, Inc., a decorating business. He later formed his own company, The Zenkes, Inc., an interior design firm, and was president until his death. Mr. Zenke was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro, where he continually enhanced the appearance of the church by many additions to its beauty. He was the director of restoration at Historic Blandwood Mansion where he spent many hours researching and supervising craftsmen to ensure historical authenticity. Mr. Zenke was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Greensboro, where he served in numerous positions, several historical preservation societies in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, and the Morehead Commission of North Carolina. Mr. Zenke had been an expert marksman with a pistol and won many trophies over the years. Mr. and Mrs. Zenke owned and restored "Tarover," a mid-19th century plantation home in Halifax, where they loved to spend time. Mr. Zenke also restored Carter's Tavern in Halifax County, belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Edmunds Sr. He frequently volunteered his talents to assist in other restoration projects throughout the southeast and was always eager to help make anything more beautiful. In 1974, he received the Ruth Coltrane Cannon Cup for historic preservation from The Historic Preservation Society of North Carolina. A funeral for Mr. Hill will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the Union United Church of Christ. Burial will take place in Virgilina Cemetery. Mr. Hill was born May 1, 1918 in Lawrenceville, Va. and was a military veteran. He was a retired merchant and owned and operated Hill's Grocery. Mr. Hill was a member of the Union United Church of Christ. He was a member of Virgilina Masonic Lodge No. 248 for 54 years and was a member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge No. 106 for 25 years. Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Hill Proffitt of Conway, S.C.; two grandchildren, Michael Murray and Kelley Morrison, both of Conway, S.C. and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Bequette Morrison and Tanner Miles Morrison, both of Conway, S.C. The family will receive friends tonight between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home. He was the husband of Martha Yates Guthrie. Mr. Guthrie was born August 20, 1952, in Lynchburg, the son of Phyllis Asher Guthrie Neal of Forest and the late Hugh Merritt Guthrie. He was a member of Falling River Baptist Church, the Campbell County Utility Board and also served as a former Boy Scout Leader. He was co-owner of The Brookneal Farmstore. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one son, Daniel Asher Guthrie of Brookneal; one daughter, Makenzie Madison Guthrie of Brookneal; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alton Asher and Brenda Guthrie of Rustburg and Landon Greg and Teresa Guthrie of Nathalie; one sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Michael Moseley of Brookneal; his stepfather, William Page Neal of Forest; his mother-in-law, Dorothy H. Yates of Brookneal; two brothers-in-law, F. Michael Yates of Brookneal and Robert H. Yates of Fresno, Calif.; and one sister-in-law, Susie Y. Clark of Greenville, N.C. A funeral service was held June 23 at 2 p.m. at Falling River Baptist Church by the Revs. Wayne Lanham and Elton McDowell. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Phillip Marvis Walker Phillip Marvis Walker, age 54, of 1240 Tobacco Road, Nathalie, died June 27, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on March 30, 1946, the son of Oscar Walker and Ethel Walker and was married to Marilyn M. Walker. He was a member of the Republican Grove United Methodist Church, a former member of North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department and the Halifax County Rescue Squad and a Vietnam Veteran. Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Artie S. Walker of Richmond and Bert D. Walker of Nathalie. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Walker and one sister, Ozelia Waller. Funeral services for Mr. Walker will be held June 29 at 11 a.m. at Republican Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Newcomb conducting the service. June 30, 2000 Della Chandler Jones Della Chandler Jones, age 37, of 1803 Grace Avenue, South Boston, died June 26, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. Jones was born in Alexandria on June 3, 1963, the daughter of Catherine Jackson Chandler and Robert Chandler Sr. and was married to Stevie Jones. She studied and attended meetings at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Natasha Patrice Jones of the home; one son, Eric Antonio Jones of the home; her mother of Halifax; two sisters, Carolyn Featherson and Rochelle Chandler, both of Halifax County; two brothers, Carl Chandler of Halifax and Robert Chandler Jr. of Richmond; and her mother-in-law, Marion Jones of South Boston. Funeral services for Mrs. Jones will be held Saturday, July 1 at 1 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Vaughan McCraw officiating. Minnie Bett Cole Minnie Bett Cole, age 82, of Hanover, died June 28, 2000. She was the widow of Caleb Cole. Survivors include three children, Margaret C. Evans, Bruce Cole Sr. and Ruth C. Washington, David, John and James Cole, Robin Patch, Susan and Joe Powell; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Ella Redd. Gertrude Stawls Hoy Gertrude Stawls Hoy, age 83, of Richmond, formerly of South Boston, died June 28, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital. Mrs. Hoy was born in Halifax County on April 8, 1917, the daughter of Thomas L. Stawls and Ida Dyer Stawls and was married to Hunter Cephus Hoy. She was a member of McCanless Memorial United Methodist Church and a past Worthy Matron of the Woodall Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include three sons, Wayne E. Hoy, Terry H. Hoy and Thomas L. Hoy, all of Richmond; one sister, Louise S. Collins of Arlington; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Graveside services for Mrs. Hoy will be held today, June 30 at Halifax Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. with the Rev. W.T. (Bo) Setliff Jr. conducting the service. Mrs. Brooks was born on January 26, 1895, the daughter of Ralph Crawley and Emily Crawley and was married to Richard Brooks. She was a member of Dan River Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Rosetta Hackley of the home, Willie Johnson of Cooksville, Md. and Elizabeth Medley of Baltimore, Md; one son, Gaither Brooks of South Boston; and seven grandchildren. Martha Wagstaff Watson Martha Wagstaff Watson, age 79, of 114 Robin Hood Road, South Boston, formerly of Washington, D.C., died June 27, 2000, at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. Watson was born in Halifax County on March 30, 1921, the daughter of Precious Wagstaff and Selenda Duncan Wagstaff and was married to Robert Lee Watson. She was a former member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Jean Darby of Washington, D.C.; two sons, Norman R. Martin of Arlington and Cedric L. Martin of South Boston; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Inez Torian of South Boston; and one brother, Rev. Penick H. Wagstaff of South Boston.
