Mrs. Dunkley was born April 18, 1917, in Halifax County the daughter of Mary Dunkley and Samuel Barksdale. Survivors include two sons, Robert Lee and William Dunkley, both of Brooklyn; three daughters, Mary Katherine Hamlett of Halifax, Sandra Stallings of Dale City and Edith Dunkley-King of Peekskill, N.Y.; one brother, Major Barksdale of Cody; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, James and Lorenzo. Funeral services were held October 28 at Trinity Tabernacle Pentecostal Church in Brooklyn. Virginia Clark Cabaniss Virginia Clark Cabaniss, age 87, of 1119 Mt. Laurel Road, Clover, died October 30 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. Cabaniss was born in Halifax County on December 12, 1912, the daughter of George Davenport Clark and Blanche Woodard Clark and was married to R.G. "Dick" Cabaniss. She was a member of Clover Baptist Church and a member of the Clover Woman's Club. Survivors include one son, Louis Cabaniss of Clover; one daughter, Aggie C. Reynolds of Danville; one daughter-in-law, Linda Cabaniss of Clover; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Alberta Cabaniss; and two sons, Frank and Richard Cabaniss. Beulah Simpson Scearce Beulah Simpson Scearce, age 82, of 4060 L.P. Bailey Memorial Highway, Halifax, died October 30 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. Scearce was born in Pittsylvania County on January 21, 1918, the daughter of Ulam Dennis Simpson and Amy Short Simpson and was married to John Henry Scearce. She was a member of Halifax United Methodist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Ruth S. Settle of Danville; two sons, Gerald S. Scearce of Halifax and Alvin D. Scearce of Suttontown, N.C.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Josephine M. Scearce. Bernice 'Doc' Orr Bernice 'Doc' Orr, age 90, of Dryden, died October 30 at Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital. Born in Lee County, she was the daughter of Morgan Simpson and Emma Cecil Orr. She was a retired teacher and a member of the Lee County Retired Teachers and District 0 Retired Teachers. Mrs. Orr was also a member of the Dryden United Methodist Church and a member of the Dryden United Methodist Women, a former member of the UDC, DAR and Magna Carta Society. She was a lifetime member of the Lee County Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include two sisters, Lucile Orr of the home and Pauline Orr Martin of Clover; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Anderson was born in Halifax County on May 25, 1915, the son of Howard Putman Anderson and Elizabeth Palmer Anderson and was married to Mildred Graham Webb Anderson. Mr. Glascock was born July 24, 1920, in South Boston the son of Mamie Lush and Thomas Judson Glascock Sr. and was married to Mary Godbold Glascock. He attended Fork Union Military Academy and Hampden Sydney College. After serving in the Army in WWII, he operated Glascock Hardware Store until his retirement. Mr. Eli was born January 29, 1925, in Princeton, Ky. the son of Dewey C. and Buena Taylor Eli and was married to Abigail Williams Eli. He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Ashland, Ky.; was a hospital administrator at the State T.B. Hospital in Ashland; and district director for the Department of Human Resources for the state of Kentucky. Also, he was a member, past president and song leader of Ashland Rotary Club, member of the Therapeutics Barber Shop Quartet, member of the Singing Colonel Chorus, a graduate of Centre College with a degree in business administration; served as president of the Kentucky Hospital Association, a member of the association's board of trustees, served as a delegate and was on the board of the American Hospital Association. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. Survivors include two sons, Randall Eli Jr. of Lilburn, Ga. and Taylor Eli of Nokomis, Fla.; one daughter, Abigail Steinmetz of Baton Rouge, La.; and six grandchildren. Elvin Temple Smith Sr. Elvin Temple Smith Sr., age 82, of 207 Canterbury Drive, Halifax, died November 8 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mr. Smith was born in Danville on October 25, 1918, the son of William Gaither Smith and Edna Hundley Smith and was married to Ruth Clark Smith. He was a member of Halifax United Methodist Church, Halifax Lions Club, Halifax Town Council, Halifax County Planning Commission, past member of the Halifax Fire Department, and a past member of the Halifax County Booster Club. He enlisted in the 29th Tank Company of the National Guard in Danville in 1940. This company was inducted into federal service February 3, 1941, as Company "C' 191st Tank Battalion; graduated from Armored Forces Officer Candidate School on September 12, 1942, and assigned to the 5th Armored Division, 34th Armored Regiment; was later assigned to the 772nd Tank Battalion and served in the European Theater of operations. Mr. Smith was decorated with the Bronze Star Medal and other awards; was advanced to the rank of Major, and served in the Army Reserves for two years, after separation from active service. He was retired from Burlington Industries, Halifax, after having been employed there for 31 years. Survivors include his wife; one son and daughter-in-law, E.T. Smith Jr. and Katherleen DeJarnette Smith of Perrysburg, Ohio; one foster daughter, Lorene D. Womble of South Boston; two grandchildren, Brandon L. Smith and Christianna S. Born November 30,, 1912 in Halifax County, Virginia, a son of the late Walter L. and Melissa Canada Fallen. Mr. Fallen moved to the Newport News area in 1941 to work in the shipyard, from which he retired in 1977. Mr. Fallen was a very active member of Riverside Baptist Church where he served as a life deacon and a Sunday School teacher. In this spare time he enjoyed making clocks of many kinds.
