Mr. Crawley was born in Halifax County on August 23, 1956, the son of Evelyn Goodman Crawley and Benjamin Frank Crawley Sr. and was married to Nodean Scott Crawley. He was a member of Union Grove CME Church and was a US Army Veteran. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lyndine Crawley of Hempstead, N.Y. and LaTrice Crawley of Richmond; three sons, Frankie Crawley II of Hempstead, Sean Crawley of Tampa, Fla. and Nicholas Crawley of Brooklyn; three grandchildren; his mother; two sisters, Adriana Crawley of Reading, Pa. and Sherlynn Crawley of Jamaica Queens, N.Y.; six brothers, Mark Crawley, Calvin Crawley, Charles Crawley, Perry Crawley and Jonathan Crawley, all of Reading and Eddie Crawley of Texas. Ira Wade Dunn Ira Wade Dunn, age 79, of 1832 Jefferson avenue, South Boston, died September 27 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mr. Dunn was born February 11, 1921, the son of Martha Tucker Dunn and John Robert Dunn. Survivors include two sisters, Jeanette D. White and Lydia D. Faulkner. He was the Godfather of Alex Hiett. Funeral services for Mr. Dunn were held September 30 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist church with the Rev. Dr. James Crowder officiating. Burial was in Rose Garden Cemetery. Carolyn Holt Guthrie Carolyn Holt Guthrie, 70, of Nathalie died Friday, September 29 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Mrs. Guthrie was born in Campbell County June 21, 1930, the daughter of the late Willie Henry Holt and Virginia Henderson Holt. She was married to Lacy Thornton Guthrie. Mrs. Guthrie was a member of Childrey Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Lacy Thornton Guthrie, Jr. of Nathalie; three brothers, Willie H. Holt Jr. of Jessup, Ga., Kenneth Holt of Brookneal, Robert (Buddy) Holt of Phenix; one sister, Rachel H. Claybrook of Lynchburg. A graveside service was conducted yesterday at Childrey Baptist Church by the Rev. Rodney Barwick. The family will receive friends at the home of the deceased, McCullock Lane, Nathalie. Charles Howard Watts Charles Howard Watts, born March 2, 1900, died September 30. A native of Halifax County, Mr. Watts was the oldest surviving graduate of Union Theological Seminary in Richmond. He was an active pastor for 31 years in numerous Presbyterian churches in south central Virginia and after retirement at age 65 he served as interim pastor of several churches until the age of 97. Mr. Watts served as Stated Clerk of the Roanoke Presbytery; for many years he was Chaplain of the Chase City Volunteer Fire Department; and had an active role with the Salvation Army in Chase City. He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Bettie Fallen Watts, and a daughter, Marian W. Turner. He is survived by a son, Ryland C. Watts and wife Evelyn of Palmyra; three daughters, Elizabeth W. Hoyle and husband Bryson of Charlottesville, Evangeline W. Hoyle of Raleigh, N.C. and Virginia W. Wilkerson and husband Jimmie of Clover; seven grandchildren, Charles Howard Watts II, Bettie S. Mrs. Willis was born in Andrews on May 3, 1921, a daughter of the late Samuel Benjamin Blakely and Katherine Isokreit Blakely. She was married to Joseph Doyle Willis. She lived in Halifax and Virginia Beach and more recently in Effingham, S.C. where she was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband of 57 years; two daughters, Patricia Annette W. Mrs. Wilkins was born on October 8, 1921, the daughter of Everette and Kathryn Jones Yancey and was married to Grayson Woodrow Wilkins. She worked as a beautician for many years in South Boston and later in Clarksville, and worked for several years as a teacher's aid at Clarksville Elementary School. Lenox Arthur Coles Lenox Arthur Coles, a former guidance counselor, educator, and avid golfer died Thursday at home after a long illness. Coles grew up in South Boston and, after marrying, moved to Baltimore, MD. He was 69 years old. He served in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. He received his bachelors degree from Paul University, formerly St. Paul College, where he met and married his wife of 41 years, Mrs. Justean Coles. He received his masters degree from John Hopkins University. Coles worked in the Baltimore City Public School System for 33 years. He retired from Lake Clifton-Eastern High School after many years of dedicated service. He enjoyed working with students and touched many lives. As a member of the LaRue Square Improvement Association he spoke out against injustice and assisted in community affairs. He was a loyal member of The Paragon Golf Club. Roy Lee Williams Roy Lee Williams, age 59, of Blairs, died October 26 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mr. Williams was born August 26, 1941, in Halifax, the son of Nathaniel and Rebecca Venable Williams and was married to Geraldine Glass Williams. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Dana Leigh of Blairs; four sisters, Doris W. Marable of Danville, Rebecca W. Barksdale of Blairs, Edith W. Marable and Irene W. Jones, both of South Boston; two brothers, Nathaniel Williams of Windsor, Ct. and J. Maynard Williams of Danville. Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be held at 1 p.m. October 28 at Mountain Hill Baptist Church in Halifax County. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Carr of 3137 Liberty Road, Nathalie died Saturday, October 28 at work in Liberty. He was born in Halifax County on December 15, 1939 and was 60 years old. He was the son of James M. Carr and Mary Clark Carr. He was a member of the Providence Presbyterian Church and was employed by The United States Post Office. He was the owner and operator of Carrs Liberty Market for many years. Mr. Carr is survived by two sons, Kenneth D. Carr of Halifax and Mark C. Carr of Scottsburg; one brother, James B. Carr of Cluster Springs; one grandaughter, Jordan Carr of Halifax; and a dear friend, Edna M. Hershman of Liberty. Services for Reuben C. Carr will be held Wednesday, November 1 at 11:00 a.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mike Wilburn conducting the service. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Henry Lloyd "Punk" Davis Henry Lloyd "Punk" Davis, age 68, of Vernon Hill, died Friday night, October 27 in the Halifax Regional Hospital, South Boston. He was born February 11, 1932, in Halifax County, a son of the late Norman S. Davis and Beatrice Shaw Davis of Vemon Hill. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the United States Army. He was retired from Raynor Saw Mill at Vernon Hill. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Jack D. McCulloch of Vernon Hill; two brothers, Orey Kent Davis of Vernon Hill and Franklin B. Davis of Chestnut Level; two sisters, Earlene D. Dodson and Shirley D. Linens, both of Danville. Graveside services will be held today at 11:00 a.m. from the Oak Level Presbyterian Church cemetery by the Rev. William Wilkins. The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Earlene Dodson, 175 Capri Ct. Percy Howard Jones Percy Howard Jones of South Boston died Friday, October 27 at Twin Oaks Nursing Home. He was born in Halifax County April 23, 1914 and was 86 years old. He was the son of Fleming Jones and Mattie Guill Jones and was married to Gracie Crews Jones. Mr. Jones was a member of the Liberty United Church of Christ. Survivors include two sisters, Elsie Jones of Scottsburg and Annie J. Smelcer of Cumberland County; one brother, Ernest Jones of South Boston. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman Lacy Jones and Lawrence Randolph Jones, and one sister, Odell Frank. Graveside services for Mr. Jones will be held today at Liberty United Church of Christ at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Bob Watts and John Wilder conducting.
