Mrs. Barker was born in Halifax County on October 1, 1927, the daughter of William A. Whitt and Isabelle Whitt Jackson and was married to Robert Aldridge Barker Sr. She was a member of Fork Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school and bible school teacher. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Brenda D. Barker of Scottsburg; two sons, Darryl A. Barker and wife, Donna of Scottsburg and Robert A. Barker Jr. and wife, Vickie of Brookneal; two sisters, Gladys W. Robey of Greensboro, N.C. and Annarene W. Caune of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, Robert A. Barker III of Thomasville, N.C., Christie Barker Lewis, Craig Benjamin Barker and Courtney Lynn Barker, all of Scottsburg, and Ashley Thomas Barker and Whitney Allen Barker, both of Brookneal. Mrs. Watson was born in Beuna Vista, Ga. on September 18, 1928, the daughter of the late Charles Howard Forsyth and the late Willie Mae Forsyth Peters and was married to James Thomas Watson Sr. She was a member of Kerns Memorial United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women of the church. Mr. Barksdale was born in Halifax County on October 13, 1913, the son of the late John 'Buster' Barksdale and Delia Barksdale, and was married to the late Inez Clark Barksdale. He served as a deacon and trustee at Crossroad Baptist Church. Survivors include one sister, Hallie Barksdale Moon of South Boston; a devoted niece and nephew, Lucy Marie Flowers of Ellicott City and Willie Long of South Boston. Mrs. Wilbourne was born in Halifax County on May 18, 1905, the daughter of Jack Almond Talley and Pallie Gravitt Talley and was married to Edgar Marvin Wilbourne Sr. She was a member of Cherry Hill United Methodist Church. Mrs. Sechriest was born February 23, 1929, to the late Emmett Apple Tuck and Pauline Waller Tuck in Anderson, SC. She spent her early life in the border town of Virgilina. She attended Stratford Hall, Danville, Elon College, and was graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an AB degree in Journalism. She was married to Stuart Sechriest. Surviving are her husband of Chapel Hill; daughters, Mary Pauline Sechriest of Chapel Hill, Elizabeth Sechriest Cornella and her husband, Dr. Rick J. She was married to the late Willie Junious 'Buck' Bowes, and was a member of Alton Baptist Church. He was married to the late Gladys Brandon and was a member of Brandon Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. Ingram was born in Halifax County on September 27, 1919, the son of Charlie Hudson Ingram and Fannie Spencer Ingram and was married to Courtland Webber Ingram. He was a veteran of WWII. Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Ingram Ferguson and four granddaughters of Laguna Hills, Ca.; one brother, Arthur Ingram of Chase City; two sisters, Edith Powell of South Boston and Elizabeth I. Travis was a member of Dan River Baptist Church where he had been active in the youth group. He was born in Halifax County, Virginia on August 8, 1938 and was 63 years old. He was the son of Earnest Earl Satterfield and Kathryn Crenshaw Satterfield. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church. Mr. Satterfield is survived by: his mother, Kathryn C. Satterfield, of Halifax; two sisters, Carol Privette, of Halifax; Dale Clark and husband Steve, of Clarksville; three nephews: W. R. Mr. Hairston was born in Danville, on March 28, 1950 and was the son of the late Minnie Lee Hairston Lipscomb and was married to Janice Glenn Hairston. He was employed by Cloverdale Lumber Company. Mr. Hairston is survived by his wife: Janice G. Burial was in the church cemetery. August 29, 2001 Hinkel Shelton Hinkel Shelton, 78, of Ringgold died August 27. Born January 3, 1923, in Greenville County, Tn., he was a son of the late John E. Shelton and Magnolia Cutshaw Shelton. He was married to the late Ella Sue Singleton Shelton. Mr. Shelton was a retired dairy farmer and an Army Veteran of WWII. Survivors include three sons, Jerry Lee Shelton of Gretna, Don G. Shelton of Ringgold and Junior Irby of King George; three daughters, Fuschia Shelton and Juanita Talley, both of Fredericksburg and Charlotte Hall of Halifax; seven brothers, Clifford Shelton of Charlotte, NC, Fred Shelton, Wade French and Gerald Shelton, all of Marshall, NC, Dennis Shelton of Flag Pond, Tn., Barnabas Shelton and Odell Shelton, both of Erwin, Tn.; three sisters, Arline Shelton and Lois Hensley, both of Greenville, Tn., and Louise Atkinson of Anderson, In.; 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Graveside services for Mr. Shelton will be held at 11 a.m. today, August 29 at Altavista Memorial Park by the Rev. Justin L. Williams. Gregory B. Hazelwood Sr. Gregory B. Hazelwood Sr., 72, of 11235 L.P. Bailey Hwy., Nathalie, died August 27 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mr. Hazelwood was born in Halifax County on June 14, 1929, the son of Thomas Lee Hazelwood and Bettie Seamster Hazelwood and was married to Christine M. Hazelwood. He was a farmer and a well known builder of birdhouses. Graveside services will be held August 30 at 2 p.m. at the Hazelwood Family Cemetery in Nathalie with the Revs. Jeff Jones and Bob Watts conducting the service. Peggy and Gary Wilson and Wilma Lee Lacks will be singing during the service. Survivors of Mr. Hazelwood include his wife; two sons, Michael Hazelwood and Ben Hazelwood, both of Nathalie; one daughter and son-in-law, Norma H. and Cliff Bryant of Martinsville; one sister, Lena Conner of Red House; one brother, Raymond Hazelwood of Chase City; one grandson, Corky Bryant; one granddaughter, Kristal Bryant; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Gregory 'Pete' Hazelwood Jr.; one sister, Gracie Conner; and three brothers, Sydnor, Thomas and Charlie Hazelwood. Lola Ballou Wood Lola Ballou Wood of 2003 Sinai Road, South Boston, died August 26 at Calvary Hospital in Bronx, N.Y. Mrs. Wood was born in Halifax County the daughter of the late Ed Ballou and Melissa Brooks Ballou and was married to Alfred Edward Wood. She was a member of Banister Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Thelma Dean of White Plains, N.Y.; two sons, Jimmy Edward Wood of South Boston and Alfred Donnell Wood of Halifax; two brothers, Herbert Ballou and Eugene Ballou, both of South Boston; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Jamar Wood. Funeral services for Mrs. Wood will be held August 31 at 11 a.m. at Banister Hill Baptist with the Rev. Dr. William Carr officiating. August 31, 2001 Katherine H. Booker Davidson Katherine Horsley Booker Davidson of Halifax died August 29 at Westminster-Canterbury in Richmond from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Mrs. Davidson was born in Lovingston in Nelson County on November 23, 1919, to the late Ruby Harris Horsley Turpin and the late Thomas Martin Horsley. She was twice married, first to Frank E. Booker Jr. of Halifax, and to J. Lyons Davidson of Lynchburg. Following the death of her first husband, she continued to operate the Halifax family business interests until she moved to Richmond. Mrs. Davidson attended the College of William & Mary and graduated from Longwood College, where she served on its Board of Visitors for eight years, two of which as vice rector. She was a member of the Board of Trustees of Stuart Hall for Girls in Staunton, president of the South Central Virginia Flower Show judges and parliamentarian of the Women of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Southern Virginia. In Halifax, she was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where she served on the vestry, was chairman of the 1973 Restoration Committee and president of the Women of the Church. She was president of the Halifax Parent-Teacher Association, president of the Banister River Garden Club, vice president of the Halifax Woman's Club and president of the Halifax County Women's Golf Association. Mrs. Davidson was a member of The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Lynchburg Committee, where she was historian. She was a trustee of the Lynchburg Academy of Music, a trustee of the Lynchburg Museum System, and was active in restoration efforts at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest home. She is survived by two daughters, Katherine Horsley Booker of Richmond and Mary Archer Booker Osborne of Halifax; a son, Frank E. Booker III of St. Simons Island, Ga.; one sister, Anne Horsley Wygal of Hilton Head, S.C.; two brothers, Dr. Thomas M. Horsley of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Ralph E. Turpin Jr. of Lovingston; three grandchildren, Frank E. Booker IV of Athens, Ga., Katherine McGuire Booker of Virginia Beach and Paul Cabell Osborne of Halifax. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Cabell Horsley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, from St. John's Episcopal Church. Margaret Elliott Blackmon Margaret Elliott Blackmon, 71, of 8203 Bill Tuck Hwy., Virgilina, died August 29 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Blackmon was born in Halifax County on April 10, 1930, the daughter of Charlie T. Elliott and Maggie Glasscock Elliott and was married to Howard Taft Blackmon. She attended Hitesburg Baptist Church and was a retired textile worker of JPS. A funeral service will be held tomorrow, September 1 at 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Survivors of Mrs. Blackmon include two daughters, Betty B. Townsend of Drakes Branch and Phyllis B.
