He was the husband of Martha Rae Maddox Owen. Mr. Owen was born in Halifax County on June 22, 1936, the son of the late Rufus Weldon Owen and the late Margaret Palmer Owen. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Owen was a former Spec 5 in The Va. National Guard, a former employee of Montague-Betts, a retired employee of the Va. Department of Transportation and was associated with Maddox Motor Co. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Marvin Ray Owen and wife, Deborah of Gladys, James Gregory Owen Sr. and Jason Weldon Owen, both of Naruna; one daughter, Angela Owen Fisher of Naruna; six grandchildren, Kevin Ray Owen, Vicky Lynn Owen, James Brandon Owen, James Gregory Owen Jr., Heather Dawn Fisher and Austin Lee Fisher; one great-grandchild, Devin Michael Owen; three sisters, Telia O. Robert Coleman Crews Robert Coleman Crews died October 14 in Philadelphia, Pa. Mr. Crews was born in Halifax County, the son of the late Coleman and Sarah Spraggins Crews. He was a member of New Shiloh Baptist Church and Vine Memorial Baptist Church of Philadelphia. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Crews; a son, Robert C. Crews; one daughter, Bernice Jones of Philadelphia; four sisters, Willie Wynne and Nancy Reed, both of Philadelphia, Clara Jennings and Alice Eubanks, both of Nathalie; one brother, Hampton Crews of Philadelphia; one son-in-law; three sisters-in-law; three grandsons and many relatives and friends. Pauline Hodnett Davis Pauline Hodnett Davis, 84, of South Boston died November 2 at The Woodview. Mrs. Davis was born March 2, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, the daughter of the late Albert M. Hodnett and Rose H. Hodnett and was married to the late Claude S. Davis. She was a member of Beth Car Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Doris D. Hodnett of Fredricksburg, Mary Frances Dayvault of Macon, Ga. and Margaret D. Fallen of Halifax; two sons, William E. 'Billy' Davis of Ringgold and James A. Davis of Roanoke; two sisters, Dema H. Clark, 79, of Columbus, In., died October 27 at his home. Mr. Clark was born in Brown County on April 27, 1922, the son of Rex and Dema Sipes Clark and was married to Peggy J. Howe Clark. Rosa Bell Talley Rosa Bell Talley, 97, of 5056 Red Bank Road, Virgilina, died November 3 at Twin Oaks Convalescent Home. Miss Talley was born in Granville County, N.C. on May 16, 1904. She was a member of Amis Chapel Baptist Church where she was a charter member of the WMU. She was also a member of the Rustburg AARP. Evelyn Burnett Murray Evelyn Burnett Murray, 77, of 2128 Gills Mountain Road, Virgilina, died November 4 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. Murray was born in Mecklenburg County on April 25, 1924, and was married to the late James Edward Murray Sr. She was a member of Union United Church of Christ where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of the Women's Fellowship, was a charter member, several times president, and 5th District president from 1976-1978 of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 337. She was a member and former president of the Virgilina Woman's Club, a former member of Henry Woodall Chapter 480 Eastern Star, was active in Cub Scout work for many years and was a member of the Women's Volunteer Auxiliary at Halifax Regional Hospital. Survivors include three sons, James E. 'Jimmy' Murray Jr. of Mebane, NC, William B. 'Billy' Murray and Henry E. Murray, both of Virgilina; two sisters, Betty Coghill of Victoria and Frances Maddox of Pike Road, Ala.; one brother, Jack Burnett of Buffalo Junction; five grandchildren, Tracey M. Jones, Janis J. Mrs. Wright was born in Halifax County on February 3, 1913, the daughter of the late Doc Montgomery and Sally Dalton Montgomery. She was a member of Hunter Road baptist Church. Survivors include three son, Ben J. Wright of Lynchburg, W. David Wright and John Otis Wright, both of Brookneal; one brother, Henry Montgomery of Charles City; two sisters, Adell M. Mr. Nordenson was born in Charlottesville on February 19, 1965. He was a member of Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad, a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Gulf War and employed as a cab driver. Guthrie of South Boston; two brothers, Larry Wayne Stone of Danville and James Edward Cole Jr. of South Boston; his mother-in-law, Ora Mae Edmonds of South Boston; two brothers-in-law, Larry Edmonds of New York and Albert Guthrie of South Boston. Funeral services for Mr. Hankins will be held December 1 at noon at Berry Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Crews officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is receiving friends at the home. Ernest Elwood Hodge Ernest Elwood Hodge, 56, of 6051 River Road, South Boston, died November 27 at his home. Mr. Hodge was born in Halifax County on April 20, 1945, the son of Parrie Lipscomb Hodge and the late Ernest Lee Hodge. He was a member of First Baptist Church of News Ferry. Survivors include his mother; two sisters, Yvonne H. Medley of South Boston and Shirley A. Robinson of Petersburg; one brother, Wayne D. Hodge of the home; two brothers-in-law, David L. Medley and Larry M. Robinson. Funeral services for Mr. Hodge will be held December 1 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of News Ferry with the Rev. Ronnie L. Keen officiating. Walter William Davis Walter William 'Bill' Davis, 70, of 1033 Drive In Road, Nathalie, died November 28 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Martha King 'Sue' Davis. Mr. Davis was born in Halifax County on May 5, 1931, the son of the late John H. Davis and Lola Guthrie Davis. He was a member of Childrey Baptist Church and a former member of the Virginia Scenic River committee. He was a retired employee of the Bibb Company. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Kimberly D. Cislo and her husband, David of Forest; two grandchildren, Megan and Courtney Cislo of Forest; one step-grandchild, Brian Gay of Fla.; one brother, John H. Davis and his wife, Liz of McBee, S.C.; two sisters, Margaret D. Phillips of Brookneal and Frances D. Lipscomb and her husband, Wallace of Lynchburg. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold E. Davis and Simmie F. Davis. A funeral service for Mr. Davis will be held today, November 30 at 2 p.m. at Childrey Baptist Church by the Rev. Rodney Barwick. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Roy Reeves Moore Roy Reeves Moore, 80, of 1087 Bellevue Road, Halifax, died November 27 at his home. Mr. Moore was born in Halifax County on May 10, 1921, the son of Oscar Allen Moore and Nancy Terry Reeves Moore and was married to Esther Ruth Lewis Moore. He was a member of Dan River Baptist Church, a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 8 and the VFW Post 8243. Survivors include three daughters, Peggy M. Farmer of Farmville, Susan M. Williamson of Chester and Amy M. Collins of Fincastle; two sons, R. Allen Moore of Augusta, Ga. and Steve L. Moore of Halifax; one sister, Stella Moore Herndon of Clinton, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and three step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Amanda Leigh Williamson. Graveside services with Military Rites for Mr. Moore will be held December 1 at Dan River Baptist Church Cemetery at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Lynn Marstin officiating. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home this evening, November 30, from 7:00 until 8:30, and other times at the home.
