Mr. Bass was born April 22, 1935, and was the son of the late William Moseley Bass and the late Adele Woodburn Bass. Survivors include one son, Dennis Bass of Weehawhen, N.J.; three brothers, William Mosley Bass Jr. of South Boston, Jacob Bass of Niceville, Fl., and Walter Bass of Halifax County; two sisters, Anne Bass Burke of Chatham and Jewelle Bass Rosser of Graham, N.C. Lillie Lloyd Martin Mrs. Lillie Lloyd Martin of 116 Rosehill Drive, South Boston, died August 2, 2002, at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on January 1, 1922 and was 80 years old. Mrs. Martin was the daughter of Mr. Charlie Lloyd and Mattie Moore Lloyd and was married to John J. Martin. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Millstone. Survivors include one son, Charlie (Buck) Martin of Rustburg; five daughters, Doris M. Conner and Virginia M. Holt, both of Nathalie, Myrtle M. Williams and Jean M. Anderson, both of South Boston, and Betty M. Hailey of Halifax; one brother, Jesse Lloyd of Brookneal; two sisters, Thelma Martin of Randolph and Louise Covington of South Boston; one grand God child, Kristen Howell; and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Martin was predeceased in death by two brothers, Dewey and James Lloyd, and two sisters, Evelyn and Gracie Martin. Services for Mrs. Martin were held Sunday at First Baptist Church of Millstone with the Revs. Bob Watts and Dr. Bill Leonard presiding. Burial took place in the church cemetery. Lizzie Dell Tuck Roark Martin Lizzie Dell Tuck Roark Martin, 87, of 1101 Sam's Trail, Nathalie, died July 31 at Berry Hill Nursing Home. Mrs. Martin was born in Halifax County on April 1, 1915, the daughter of Thomas Edward Tuck and Jennie Bell Crews Tuck. She was first married to Claude C. Roark then to Roy W. Martin, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Millstone. Survivors of Mrs. Martin include one son, Claude C. Roark Jr. of Kimberly, AL; two daughters, Agnes R. Gregory of Halifax and Kaye R. Boelte of Long Island; three stepdaughters, Peggy M. Fisher of Nathalie, Nell M. Kinnier of Amherst and Beth M. Wooding of Halifax; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Lonnie Johnson Newton Jr. Mr. Lonnie Johnson Newton Jr. of 1157 Cody Road, Nathalie, died August 2, 2002, at his home. He was born in Granville County, N.C., on November 5, 1918, and was 83 years old at death. He was the son of Mr. Lonnie Johnson Nerwton Sr. and Mrs. Allene Watkins Newton and was married to Ruby Conner Newton. Mr. Newton was a member of First Baptist Church of Republican Grove and was retired from the Baptist Sunday School Board, Nashville, Tenn. Survivors include his wife and two sons and daughters-in-law, Lonnie J. and Allene H. Newton III of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Lawson and Lisa E. Newton of Advance, N.C.; one sister, Elizabeth N. Taylor of Oxford, N.C.; three brothers, Nelson Newton of Dunn, N.C., James Newton of Rose Hill, N.C. and John Newton of Wilmington,N.C.; and four grandchildren, Carrington Carter Newton of Louisville, Ky., Benjamin Thomas Newton of Boone, N.C., Elizabeth Morgan of Hendersonville, N.C. and Ashley Nicole Wiles of Wilmington, N.C. Leo Yancey Mr. Leo Yancey of Oxford, N.C., died August 2, 2002, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 81. Born in Granville County, N.C., he was the son of the late Mr. Nelson Yancey and Esmon Pointer Yancey and was a member of the New Johnathon Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Yancey is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Madaline Y. Wilkerson of Oxford, N.C. and Mrs. Mary Easterling of Cluster Springs; one son, Hurel Bumpars of Columbia, S.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Y. August 7, 2002 Evelyn Stephens Bell Evelyn Stephens Bell, 91, of Nathalie died August 3 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. Bell was born in Halifax County on July 16, 1911, the daughter of James Stephens and Clara Barksdale Stephens and was married to Leonard Bell. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Survivors include a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Bell will be held today, August 7 at noon at the Church of God of Prophecy in Cody, with the Rev. Stephen W. Byrd officiating. Lena Jeffress Goode Lena Jeffress Goode, 73, of 140 Wood Lane, Saxe, died August 5 at her home. Mrs. Goode was born in Charlotte County on May 3, 1929, the daughter of the late William H. and Olia Toombs Jeffress. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church, Red Oak, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Perkins was born in Halifax County on April 21, 1920, the daughter of Henry and Martha Lacks Cook and was married to Raymond Daniel Perkins. She was a member of Ellis Creek Baptist Church. Ineal Miller Boyd Robinson Ineal Miller Boyd Robinson, 68, of 217 Pierce's Trail, Nathalie, died August 2 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. Robinson was born in Halifax County on April 13, 1934, the daughter of the late Ernest Miller and the late Catheryn Poindexter Miller and was first married to the late Arthur Willie 'Mac' Boyd and later married Charles Odell Robinson. She was a member of Millstone Baptist Church. August 9, 2002 Clarence Booker Jordan Clarence Booker Jordan, 81, of Danville, died August 6 at Danville Regional Hospital. Mr. Jordan was born in Amherst County on April 11, 1921, the son of the late Willis Whitfield Jordan and Mary Mamie Bomar Jordan and was married to Beatrice Waller Jordan. He was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a WWII Army Veteran and retired employee of Dan River, Inc. In addition to his wife, Mr. Jordan is survived by one son, C.M. 'Mike' Jordan and wife, Mary of Greenville, NC; one daughter, Bonnie J. Daniels of Ringgold; three brothers, Haywood Jordan of Nathalie, Dickie Jordan of Brookneal and Paul Jordan of Lynchburg; one sister, Christine Hendricks of Rustburg; two grandchildren, Preston Daniels and wife, Candy of Blairs and Jason Daniels and wife, Stacy of South Boston; and two great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Kelsy Daniels. George Greely Wilkins George Greely Wilkins, 91, of 3071 Philpott Road, South Boston, died August 7 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mr. Wilkins was born in Halifax County on April 29, 1911, the son of George Washington Wilkins and Addie W. Wilkins and was married to Mary Anna Crawley Wilkins. He was a member of White Oak Fork Baptist Church, was a WWII Army Veteran, and was a retired longshoreman. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde and Frank, four sisters, Daisy Lang, Nellie St. John, O'dell Wade and Marguerite Tolley. Mrs. Baker is survived by one son, Leslie Baker of Chesterfield, and three daughters, Marie Heath of Richmond, Virginia June Jones of South Boston and Mary Anderson of Lynchburg. He was married to Juanita Anderson Kersey. He was a member of Clover Bottom Baptist Church, French Masonic Lodge, Brookneal Moose Lodge and the Brookneal Sportsman Club. Mr. Kersey was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict and owner of Kersey's Body Shop for 35 years. He was born in Clover on June 13, 1919. Mr. Brown was the son of the late William Beverly Brown and the late maria Elizabeth Green Brown. He was first married to the late Elsie Mae Winston Brown. Mr. Brown was a member of the Bethel Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gracie Hill Brown, his children, Joyce Whirley of the Bronx, New York, Victor Brown of Manassas, Elsie Mae Brown of Bronx, New York, Robert Brown of Fayetteville, N.C., Tracy Brown of Halifax and Vincent Brown of Baltimore, Maryland. Two children preceded Mr. Brown in death, Larry Hill and Angela Brown. Mr. Brown is also survived by 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, 10 brothers and sisters, a host of other relatives and many friends.
