Mr. Duffey was born in Halifax County on December 7, 1935, the son of Addie F. Duffey and Julia Duffie Duffey and was married to Ruth Clay Duffey. He was a member of Clover United Methodist Church, was a lifetime member and past Chief of Clover Volunteer Fire Department, and was retired from R.O. Harrell. Graveside services for Mr. Duffey will be held today, November 1 at 2 p.m. at Clover Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Wilkins officiating. Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Tim Duffey and his wife, Renee of Clover; one brother, Malcolm 'Billy' Duffey of Keysville; one granddaughter, Samantha Duffey; and one grandson, Ryan Duffey. Mary Venable O'Neal Mary Venable O'Neal, 90, of 430 North Main Street, Halifax, died October 29 at her home. Mrs. O'Neal was born in Halifax County on February 4, 1912, the daughter of the late Willie Venable and Tassie Dixon Venable. She was married to the late Herman O'Neal. Survivors include one sister, Ruth Naomi Venable of New York, NY; and one brother, Eugene Venable of Halifax. Yvonne Nichols Peace Yvonne Nichols Peace, 80, of 86 Maple Avenue, Halifax, died October 29 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. Peace was born in Shanghai, China on March 7, 1922, the daughter of Ruthvan Bebe Nichols and Rachel James Woods Nichols and was married to Crawford Grandy Peace. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Peace was an Old China Hand and served time in a Japanese concentration camp during WWII. Survivors include three daughters, Shelley Peace of Halifax, Courtney P. Hagins and her husband, Harold V. Hagins, of Hilton Head Island, SC, and Nonnie P. Mr. Sneed was born in Halifax County on March 31, 1922, the son of Arthur Manly Sneed and Mattie Belle Culley and was married to Dorothy Overby Sneed. He was a member of Halifax Baptist Church, a deacon and Sunday school director and a member of Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Chester Holland Sneed Jr. of Ringgold and Larry Paige Sneed of South Boston; two daughters, Donna Ferguson of Tampa, FL and Jeanne Sneed Medley of Nathalie; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Arthur Eugene Snead of Halifax, John Sneed of South Boston and Richard Sneed of Fayetteville, NC. Mr. Tune was born in Halifax County the son of the late Ernest G. and Nannie W. Tune. He was an employee of BWX Technology and a member of Republican Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Elroy Tune and wife, Katrina of Lynchburg; two daughters, Sharon Tune of Silver Spring, MD and Dalisha Tune of Lynchburg; two brothers, Russell Tune of Lynchburg and Joe J. Mrs. Hancock was born in Halifax County on April 17, 1912, the daughter of George C. Powell and Eva Bliss Powell and was married to Ernest P. Hancock. She was a member of Centerville Baptist Church. November 4, 2002 Allie Ferrell Henry Mrs. Allie Ferrell Henry of Chase City, formerly of Clover, died Friday in Chase City at the age of 102. She was born in Halifax County on August 8, 1900, a daughter of the late William Ferrell and Alice Lacks Ferrell. She was married to the late Walter Henry and was a member of the St. Matthew Baptist Church. Mrs. Henry is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Bessie Watkins of Chase City, one son, Hector Henry of Clover, 23 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, three daughters-in-law, Mrs. Beatrice Henry and Mrs. Ethel Henry, both of Baltimore, Maryland, and Mrs. Betty Henry of Richmond, one son-in-law, Robert Lee Jones of Chase City, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Allie Ferrell Henry will be held Tuesday, November 5, at 2 p.m. at the St. Matthew Baptist Church with the Rev. Whitfield Scott officiating. Richard Wilborn Lowery Graveside services for Richard Wilborn Lowery, 79, will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Halifax Memorial Gardens. Mr. Lowery died Saturday, November 2, in Virginia Beach. He was born in Virgilina on July 18, 1923, a son of Robert Stebbins Lowery and Dorothy Wilborn Lowery, who preceded him in death. Lowery graduated from Virgilina High School and attended the University of Richmond. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942 and was assigned to the officer training program at Duke University, where he received his bachelor's degree. He was honorably discharged in May 1946 and attended Washington and Lee University Law School. He received his law degree in 1948 and set up practice in South Boston, where he also served as a municipal judge. Lowery was a 53-year member of the Virginia Bar Association and practiced law in South Boston, San Antonio, Texas, New York, Chicago and Virginia Beach. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Grimes Courtney, and a brother, Cecil Lowery. He is survived by his sister, Verlet Lowery Shelton of Sevierville, Tennessee, sons David D. Lowery of Austin, Texas and Mark F. Lowery of Richmond and daughter Hollis Lowery Moore of The Woodlands, Texas, two stepchildren, Ms. Jimmie Rehbock of Orland Park, Illinois, and Clyde Hudson of Orlando, Florida. Mr. Hudson was born in Halifax County on June 15, 1924, the son of Henry E. Hudson Sr. and Gracie Lowery Hudson and was married to Dorothy Watts Hudson. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Administrative Board. Mr. Hudson was also a member of the Hyco Road Ruritan Club, and was a retired salesman with Jewel Tea Company. Mr. Lee was born in Colonial Beach on February 12, 1924, the son of George Thurston Lee and Ruth Olivia Leedy Lee and was married to Sarah Hodges Lee for 54 years. He was a member of Colonial Beach United Methodist Church, and was employed with the NSWC in Dahlgren. Mr. Lee was a member of American Legion Post 148, was active in the Colonial Beach VFD, and was a charter member of Colonial Beach Rescue Squad. Mrs. Vaughan was a native of Beckley, WVA, but lived most of her life in Halifax. She was married to Grady Franklin Vaughan. Luby Williamson Yancey Luby Williamson Yancey, 93, of Nelson, widow of Robert Lee Yancey, died November 5 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mrs. Yancey was a graduate of Clarksville High School and State Teachers College, now Longwood. She taught school until her marriage in 1932. She and her husband owned and operated R.L. Yancey Store from April 1933 until the present. Mrs. Yancey was a former member of Order of Eastern Star, Clarksville Chapter 145 and a member of Averett Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was past president of WMU. She was a member of Revelation Baptist Church, a member of the Halifax Regional Hospital Auxiliary and a former member of IMC where she served in various offices. Mrs. Reagan was a registrar at Halifax Regional Hospital E.R. He was a member of Scottsburg United Methodist Church, a member of the Optimist Club, and was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 13 years of service. Survivors include two brothers, Earl Snead and Thomas Snead, both of Scottsburg; three sisters, Shirley Burgess of Courtland, Wilma Puckett of Pamplico, SC and Gladys Wagner of South Boston. He was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Cassada, and one brother Hugh Snead. Services for Mr. Snead will be held tomorrow, November 9, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. November 11, 2002 Donald Lee Davis Sr. Funeral services for Mr. Donald Lee Davis Sr., will be held Tuesday, November 12 at 1 p.m. at the New Shiloh Baptist Church in Nathalie. The Rev. Sylvester Crawley will conduct the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Davis died Sunday at the Berry Hill Nursing Home in South Boston. He was 53. He was the son of the late James Joseph Davis Sr., and Edith Dennis Davis. Mr. Davis is survived by one son, Donald Lee Davis Jr., two daughters, Virginia Michele Davis and Priscilla Sanford, all of South Boston, three brothers, James J. Mr. Delaware is survived by one sister, Ms. Marie Sims of Clover; three brothers, Peter Delaware of Greensboro, N.C., Clyde Delaware of Clover and Charles Delaware of New Jersey; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Cindy Delaware and Mrs. Lillian Delaware; and a host of nieces, nephews, including Devon Marable of South Boston, friends and relatives. Mr. Delaware was preceded in death by three sisters, Mrs. Luctillar Scott, Mrs. Sarah Johnson and Mrs. Marion Mitchell, and five brothers, James Delaware, John Delaware, Louis Delaware, Thomas Delaware and Howard Delaware. Funeral services for Mr. Delaware were held Sunday, with services at the St. Matthew Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Terry officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends following the service. Teresa Costner Gabriel Teresa Costner Gabriel, 42,of Greensboro, NC died November 20 at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro. A graveside service was held Sunday, November 24, at Dan River Baptist Church Cemetery in Halifax. Mrs. Gabriel is survived by her mother, Margaret Lovelace Costner of Pleasant Garden, NC; spouse, William R. Cooper Sr. of Greensboro; and one brother, Danny Costner of Asheville, NC. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence J. Costner. Lawrence Owen Mr. Lawrence Owen of South Boston died Saturday at Halifax Regional Hospital. Mr. Owen was 69. He was born in Halifax County on September 5, 1933, a son of the late Venable Owen and Mary Fountain Owen. He was married to Mrs. Dorothy Cameron Owen and was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Owen was an Army veteran, and the retired operator of Independent Cab Company. Mr. Owen is survived by his wife, Dorothy Owen, five daughters, Ms. Janice White, Ms. Nina White and Ms. Brenda White, all of South Boston, Ms. Phyllis Owen of Richmond and Ms. Theresa White of Skoie, Illinois, and one son, Marvin Owen of South Boston. Harold Ramsey Jr., 70, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The Rev. H.V. Conner and Dr. Carlyle Ramsey will officiate at the service. Mr. Ramsey, a retired lineman for Dominion Virginia Power, died Friday at Duke University Medical Center. He was a member of Alton Baptist Church, and an Army veteran. He was born April 19, 1932, a son of the late Otis Harold Ramsey Sr. and Hester Ellen Meeler Ramsey. He is survived by a wife, Nancy Moore Ramsey of South Boston, two daughters, Susan Ramsey Scearce and her husband Floyd Scearce of South Boston, and Lisa Ramsey Holt and her husband, Chris Holt, of Scottsburg. Mrs. Mattie Jennings Mrs. Mattie Jennings, formerly of Halifax County, died Wednesday in New York. She was 81. Mrs. Jennings was born in Halifax County on September 23, 1921, a daughter of the late James Epperson and Sally Collins Epperson. She was a member of the Bethel Grove Baptist Church, and she was married to the late Samuel S. Jennings. Mrs. Jennings is survived by three children, Mrs. Paulette Jenkins and Ronald Jennings, both of the Bronx, New York, and Garry Jennings of Baltimore, Maryland. Also surviving are three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends, including devoted companion Leon Davis. He was 62. Mr. Palmer was a son of the late Lee Davis Palmer and Virginia Palmer, and a was a member of the M.L. King Sabbath Church in South Hill. He was the son of the late Frank N. and Dorothy H. Crews of South Boston. Mrs. Barnes was born in St. Johnsbury, VT on October 8, 1949, but grew up in Fairfax, graduating from Fairfax High School in 1967. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1971. Preceded in death by her mother, Jean Scott Southard, and her father, Rupert Barron Southard, Mrs. Barnes is survived by her husband of 31 years, Dr. Robert F. Barnes Jr. of Chesterfield County; three sons, Robert F. Barnes III of Richmond, Matthew Scott Barnes of Roanoke, and Jacob Barron Barnes of Chesterfield County. She is also survived by her siblings, John S. Southard, his partner, Gunda Klitsch, and their son, Johannes Klitsch of Darmstadt, Germany, Timothy W. Southard and his wife, Jody, and daughter Caitlin, of Fredericksburg, Matthew B. Southard and his wife, Mary Lynn, of Leesburg, and his daughter, Rebecca, of Turners Fall, MA, Ann S. Harwell and her husband, Michael, of Burke, and Joseph R. Southard and his wife, Tara, and daughter, Brooke, of Fairfax. She is also survived by beloved extended family, Mabel C. Her professional career included nursing positions at Medical College of Virginia Hospitals, Halifax Community Hospital in South Boston, Henrico Co. Health Department, and finally Chesterfield Co. Health Department where she served on the school nursing team from 1982 until 1999. She provided public health nursing services to several high schools in the county, to include L.C. Bird High School, Thomas Dale High School, Matoaca High School, Burger King Academy, and Meadowbrook High School. She was a CPR Instructor for the Health Department. She served the health needs of her community, providing assistance to individuals of all ages. Mr. Williams was born in Halifax County on March 14, 1935, the son of the late Robert Johnson Williams and Mary Stanfield Williams Gardner, and was married to Katie Talley Williams. He was a member of Jeters Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
