I Peter Clark of Halifax County Virginia being sick and weak of body but of sound mind and reasoning and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner of form and followith (to wit) It is my will and desire that all my just debts be paid out of the money owing from the sale of crops and what is now owing to me and if that shouldn't be sufficient that such of my estate as can be so spared shall be sold for that purpose. Item I give and bequeth to my wife Nancy Clark all of the residue of my estate both real and personal, during her natural life or widowhood. And at her death what she leaves I wish divided among all my children in the following (manner?). That all those of them that have lived with me longest heretofore of those that are now living with me should choose to continue with there mother to be moderately ___ for there ____ service not til after her death and then only to draw such pay as two or three good ___ men in that ____ that are required with their services shall think they ought ___ and the balance of my estate that remains to be equally divided among my children (viz) Jency Clarks two children Eliza and John Henry Clark to have and equal parts equally divided between them Thomas Clark one other part Daniel Clark one other equal part Peter Clark ___ one other equal part John Clark one other equal part Sterling Clark one other equal part Elizabeth Clark one other equal part and Roland Clark one other equal part further that Jency Clarks two children Eliza Ann and John Henry Clark shall continue to live with my wife and be supported by her until they are capable of caring for themselves and if she should not live till such time that one of my children shall raise them and be paid for it out of my estate before his family divided and lastly I nominate and appoint my two sons Thomas and Daniel Clark executors to this my last will and testament ___ ___ all and doing well by me heretofore made testimony whereof I have set my hand and seal this 23rd day of March 1822. Clowder, Thomas Clark, Daniel Clark In a court held for Halifax County the 27th day of May 1822 The within recorded last will and testament of Peter Clark dec'd was proved by the oathes of three witnesses hereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded. Whereupon on motion of Thomas and Daniel Clark the executors thereinnamed who made oath thereto according to law. Certificate was granted him for obtaining probate thereof in due form they giving security whereupon they together with John Chappell, Edward Bruce, and James Old their services entered into and acknowledged bond in the penalty of fifteen hundred dollars.
