OF HALIFAX COUNTY, VIRGINIA IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN I Anthony Gholston of the County of Halifax and Colony of Virginia being weak of body but of a disposing mind and memory blessed be to God for the same do hereby make this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following Vitz.t.: I give and bequeath to my son John Gholston one negroe boy named Sam to him and his Heirs. Item I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Gholston one Negroe boy named Cupid to him and his Heirs. Item I give and bequeath to my son Dabney Gholston one Negroe boy named Adam to him and his Heirs. Item I give and bequeath to my loving Wife Mary Gholston my Land whereon I now live during her natural life and at her decease I give demise and bequeath the said Land to my son Dabney Gholson to him and his Heirs. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Eunicey Gholson one Negroe boy named Tom. and one Negroe Girl named Milley to her and her Heirs also one feather bed and furniture to her and her Heirs. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Seuky Gholson two Negroe boys named Peter and Major also one feather Bed and furniture to her and her Heirs. Item I give and bequeath to my loving Wife Mary Gholson the rest and residue of my Estate both real and personal after the paying of my Estate both real and personal after the paying of my just Debts and funeral Expenses during her natural life. And at her decease to be equally divided among my Children Vizt. Sarah Powell, Ann Flemin, John Gholson, Joseph Gholson, Mary Jones, Betty Jones, Eunicey Gholson, Dabney Gholson and Seuky Gholson. I do hereby appoint my loving Wife Mary Gholson and my Sons John and Joseph Gholson Executors of this my Last Will and Testament. As Witness my hand and seal this 13th day of March 1779. Test: Edwin Garlington (Signed) Anthony Gholston Richard Hatter X his mark Susanna Hatter X her mark At a Court held for Halifax County the 15th day of July 1779 This Last Will and Testament of Anthony Gholston deceased was Exhibited in Court by John, Joseph and Mary Gholston the Executors herein named and the same was proved by the Oaths of Two of the subscribing Witnesses hereto and the same was ordered to be recorded and on the Motion of the said Executors who made Oath hereto according to Law Certificate is granted them for obtaining Probate thereof in due form they giving Security whereupon they together with Marmaduke Manfield and William Watkins their Securities entered into and acknowledged Bond for the same according to Law.
