Will of Standley Hite Sr., 1827 In the name of God Amen, I,Standley Hyte,Senr. of the County of Halifax, State of Virginia do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following: First, my will and desire is that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid. Item, I lend to my beloved wife Patsey Hyte, for the lands which I have already deeded containing one hundred and twenty five acres, be the same more or less, two of my slaves such as she may choose, one horse of her choice, as much of my stock of all kind as she may think proper to take, also as much Household and kitchen furniture,Plantation utensils all during her natural life. Item, my will and desire is at the death of my beloved wife that my four daughters, Catherine Overbey, Patsey Jones, Salley Hyte and Nancy Hyte be made equal in shares to my three sons, Vincent,Hampton and Standley Hyte, for the lands which I have already deeded to them and the surplus, if any after giving to Eliza Overbey,daughter of Bird Overbey, fifty dollars, to be equally divided between my seven children before named. Item, the property which will be left after my wife taking what she wants, my will and desire is that it may be sold and divided or may be divided in value without sale between my four daughters, making in part or in whole equal shares with my sons for their lands before named. Lastly, I appoint my two sons, Vincent and Standley Hyte executors of this my last will and testament, revoking all others by me heretofore named, witness my hand and seal this 27th day of Sept. 1827. (X) Talley mark At a court held for Halifax County, the 22nd day of October, 1827, the within written last will and testament of Standley Hite, dec,d. was exhibited in court and proved by the oath of two of the witnesses thereto subscribed and ordered to be recorded, And on the motion of Vincent Hite, the executor therein named who made oath thereto according to law, certificate is granted him for obtaining probate of the said will in due form, he giving security whereupon he together with David Dunn and Archibald Loftis his securities entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penality of $6,000 conditioned as the law directs.
