Will of Thomas Stovall, 1798 - Halifax Co. VA HALIFAX CO VA WILL Book 6 STOVALL, Thomas Jan 13, 1798/ Probated 25 July 1803, 26 Sept 1803 In the name of God, Amen, I, THOMAS STOVALL, of Halifax Co and the state of Virginia, being of perfect mind and memory, but apprized of the uncertainty of human life, do make and ordain this, my last Will and Testament, To Wit: In the first place, recommend my immortal Soul to the Mercy of God who gave it to me, and my mortal body, to the earth from whence it proceeded, therein to be decently buried, at the discretion of my Executor, to be hereafter named. As to my worldly good, with which kind providence has endowed me, I, first, give and bequeath unto my eldest daughter SARAH BURTON, one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf formerly lent her, and now in her possession to her and her heirs forever. Secondly, I give and bequeath to my son BARTHOLOMEW STOVALL, that tract of land on which he formerly lived, consisting of one hundred and seventy four acres, to the same more or less lying upon the draught of Hunting Creek, which said Bartholomew sold to Giles Shumate, also one horse and saddle, one cow and calf, and one bed and furniture, having had possession of the same, to him and his heirs forever: Thirdly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter, TABITHA KEEZE, one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf, of which she is already possessed, to her and her heirs forever; Fourthly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter, PHEBE OWEN, a parcel of land to be laid off and taken from the northeastern end of the tract on which I now live, which said parcel of land is to be bounded by William Owen's Spring Branch, beginning at the line of the land of Thomas Clarke, deceased, thence up the Spring Branch, including the same thence a straight line to the highest post oak, being a marked tree upon Dicker.......Owen' line, which said parcel of land is computed at thirty acres, be the same more or less, and includes the settlement on which the said WILLIAM OWEN and PHEBE, his wife, now lives, also one feather bed and furniture, and one cow and calf now in her possession, all which I give and bequeath to her and her heirs forever; Fifthly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter, BETTY ANN OWEN, one feather bed and furniture, and one cow and calf, being in possession of the same, to her and her heirs forever; Sixthly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter, REBECCA DICKERSON, one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf, being possessed of the same, to her and her heirs forever: Seventhly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter, SALLY DICKERSON, one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf, being possessed of the same, also a negro girl, Jane, to her and her heirs forever; Eighthly, I give and bequeath unto my daughter SUCKEY WOODALL, one feather bed and furniture, and one cow and calf, being possessed of the same, to her and her heirs forever; Ninthly, I give and bequeath unto my son, GEORGE STOVALL, my negro man, Tobe, one feather bed and furniture, one cow and calf, one horse and saddle, being possessed of the same, also i give and devise to my said, GEORGE STOVALL, all the land I now live on, including a late entry considered as a part of it, saving the described parcel of land devised to my daughter PHEBE OWEN, all which I give, bequeath and devise to the said GEORGE STOVALL, and his heirs forever; Tenthly, it is my further will and desire that my negro wench, Kate, with her child, Isaac, and future increase prior to my death, together with all the rest and residue of my estate, not heretofore expressly given away, shall be set up at publick auction and sold for ready money; which money it is my desire shall be equally divided between all and every of my children below named, my son GEORGE STOVALL excepted, after first paying my debts, if any, and funeral expenses. I do constitute and appoint my friends, GEORGE CARRINGTON and THOMAS DOBSON, Executors of this my last Will and Testament, revoking all others.
