WILL OF JOHN WOOLFOLK Halifax Co., Va. Book 1, pg. 269. Written 22 Dec 1778 & probated 15 Jul 1779 I, John Woolfolk of St. Margaret's Parish and County of Caroline, planter, being of sound mind and memory yet considering the uncertainty of this mortal life do think it necessary to make and ordain this my last will which is as followith: ITEM: It is my will that my just debts be first paid of anything if possible without the sale of my estate but if that can't be I leave it to my wife to sell such things as she can best spare to pay the same. ITEM: I lend to my loving wife Lucy the land that I lately bought of __ William Collins & George Isabell in Halifax Co during her natural life and at her death I give the said land to my daughter Anne Woolfolk to her and her heirs forever. ITEM: I lend my wife Lucy all the rest of my estate except a negro boy John Nelson until my daughter comes of lawful age or marrieth then she is to receive one half of my per-able Estate. ITEM: I give to my loving wife Lucy the negro boy John Nelson to her and her heirs forever. ITEM: It is my will and desire that if my daughter Anne Woolfolk should die before she comes of age or marrieth that my loving wife enjoy my whole estate during her natural life and then I give a negro woman Lucy, Isaac, ?Iuner?, Sinkinshis? To be equally divided between my brothers and sisters then living. ITEM: If my daughter Anne should die without a lawful heir, I give the above mentioned Land to my loving wife Lucy to her and her heirs forever. ITEM: I leave my loving wife Lucy, my friend George Isabell & my loving friend Robert Jones exec. Of this my last will this revoking all other wills by me made. This last will and testament of John Woolfolk dec'd was exhibited by Lucy Woolfolk executrix herein named & proved by oath of 2 wit & ordered rec'd. On motion of the sd extrix who made oath hereto ---- certificate is granted her for obtaining probate --- in due form she giving security whereupon she with William Collins & Robert Jones her security ---- liberty --- for the other executors to join in probate ----- think proper.
