Jacobs Cemetery Location: Follow Old Point Road, Route #60, out of Hampton, Virginia and turn with the street car line at Hampton Institute, turn east at the turn and this road down one block leads into the National Cemetery entrance. Hampton, Virginia DATE: 1860 to 1865. OWNERS: United States Government. DESCRIPTION: Tombstones of the Confederate Soldiers can easily be told from the others, as they come up to a point at the top and the soldiers tombstones since, are oval shape. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following inscriptions are in what is known as the old section of the cemetery; the extreme southeastern corner. The record book at the cemetery keeper’s office showed some interesting names, graves of whom can be found in this cemetery. There are very few stones in here for officers; most all are listed as soldiers.
