TINSLEY in the 71st year of his age. The Christian needs no eulogy. If he has lived a life of Godliness, and died a death of faith, then human praise can scarcely add to the feelings of respect, veneration and love, which his actions have engendered. Though his body may be buried in the grave, yet his words of kindness and his deeds of love still live and exert their impressive and sanctifying power upon the hearts of those who are left behind. "Being dead, he yet speaketh." The subject of this notice had lived to a good old age. He had seen generations pass away and having the school mates who eat with him at the feet of "Parson Blair," there were but two remaining on the earth. His early years sufficed, with him, to work the deeds of the flesh, and at length, under the power of grace and mercy, he was enabled to find peace and joy in believing. He has cast his burden on the Lord, and he found that He would sustain him. Having been justified by faith in the Son of God, he entered upon the work of sanctification for the enjoyment of heaven. He was beset by many temptations, and hindered by many obstacles, in his pursuit of holiness. The flesh warred against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh. Often, when he would do good, evil we present with him; but, through much prayer and supplication, we trust that he was enabled to come out conqueror, and more than conqueror through Him that loveth us. His temptations were many, but his victory complete. Having trusted in Christ, he endured to the end, and died rejoicing in the faith. As a friend and neighbor, he was firm, generous, forbearing and forgiving - hospitable to all, and willing to lend a helping hand to the poor and the needy. His love was without dissinulation, and his kindness and literality were extended to all. He hated meanness and hypocrisy, and acted consciously in his rebukes. He was honest and upright in all his dealings, simpathetic in times of affliction, and benevolent to those in adversity. As a husband and father, he cultivated all those qualities and graces which constitute a happy home. Liberal, courteous, affectionate and indulgent, his wife and his children loved, honored and obeyed him, with reverence and delight. His great wish for his children, which he often expressed in conversation and in prayer, was to see them all members of the household of faith - the children of God - the friends of Jesus. As an elder in Pale Green and Salem chcurch, in whose bosom he had been nursed, he ruled well, advised soundly, labored hard, and prayed earnestly for its success in the strengthening of saints and the salvation of sinners. And now, though the silver cord has been loosed and the golden bowl been broken, yet we humbly trust that in Heaven he is reaping the rewards of his labors and enjoying the gruition of his earnest hopes. He had traveled a long pilgrimage, and was wearied with many sorrows, but, rejoicing in hope and patient in tribulation, he trusted in the righteousness of Christ and fell asleep in Jesus. Like Enoch of old, "he walked with God, and he is not, for God took him." "Even so, Father, for so it seemeth good in thy sight." "The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away: blessed be the name of the Lord."
