HANOVER COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – “Big Oaks” and Big Oaks Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Big Oaks & Big Oaks graveyard: 1937 Dec. 17 Research made by James Archer Evans Cemetery Location: North from City limits of Richmond on Route #1, 17 miles to the intersection of Route #51, northwest on Route #51 three and eighteen one hundredths miles to “Big Oaks”, on west side of road, twenty and eighteen one hundredths miles northwest of Richmond, Virginia in Hanover County. Hanover County, Virginia DATE: 1740 (house) OWNERS: Edmund Taylor, W.D. Taylor, William Jacqueline Taylor, Charles Sacrey et als. (Dates here not available as records were destroyed by fire during the evacuation of Richmond.) HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Just to the north of the house stands the old family burial ground in which many of the former residents of “Big Oaks” rest. It is in a plot one hundred feet long by one hundred feet wide. There are several evergreens, many fine old locusts and cedars, and periwinkle and honeysuckle cover the ground. Many graves have no markers but the following are well preserved and cared for: William D. Taylor Born April 14, 17781 Died May 17, 1858 To the memory of Mrs. Sarah G.S. Taylor wife of Wm. D.
