Cemetery Location:  North from Richmond, Virginia, City Limits, on U.S. Route 
                    #2, 9-1/4 (or .3) miles, thence east on Route #606, 1.5 
                    miles to private road, thence north on private land .8 of a 
                    mile to burial ground.
                    Hanover County, Virginia


DATE:

About 1800.

OWNERS:

Nelson Gardner, Thomas Gardner, Thomas Meredith, Sarah Meredith.

Farm now owned (1937) by Mrs. Emma R. Borkay.

DESCRIPTION:

This beautiful old graveyard is located on a hill side overlooking a valley and 
just above a sunken road.  It is approximately about fifty feet square and is 
guarded by fifteen of the most magnificent cedars one could find in Virginia.  
Honeysuckle and ivy decorate the graves and its interior seems to be a green 
carpet.

There are no records of the number of bodies buried here, as several graves are 
unmarked and some have been removed.  The following stones are well preserved, 
however, and although reported to have been frequently knocked down by shell 
fire during the intense fighting in this locality during the War Between the 
States, are still legible, while many others are buried with earth:

wife of Thomas Gardner
Who departed this life May 31, 1845
Aged 39 years
I have loved thee on earth,
May I meet thee in Heaven.


Jane Edna Meredith
Died away from home
and mother
Age 8 years
At Rest


In addition are six small mounds reported to be six infant Merediths, whose 
names are not available.
