HANOVER COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – “Long Row” and Fulcher Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, Long Row and Fulcher graveyard: 1937 Nov. 29 Research made by James Archer Evans Cemetery Location: From Richmond, go 12 miles north on Route #1 to the intersection of Route #54; thence 11.5 miles northwest on Route #54 to the intersection of Route #683; thence 1.8 miles east, on Route #683 to intersection of Route #658; thence east a half mile to “Long Row” on Route #658. Hanover County, Virginia DATE: 1720 (house) OWNERS: William Fulcher, Waller Carpenter, Daniel Kulp, Pierce Markey, Joint Stock and Land Bank of Durham, North Carolina. Dates, etc. not available as records were destroyed by fire during the evacuation of Richmond, Virginia. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Just west of the house is a cemetery, located in a clump of beautiful tree boxwood. A monument with a base five feet square, the shaft graduated and nine feet tall, has the following inscription: Sacred to the memory of William Fulcher who departed this life May 30, 1844 In the 82nd year of his age This stone has been placed here by his widow as a memento of his departed worth On another monument with a three foot base and an eight foot shaft, the following appears: In memory of my Husband Waller Carpenter Born February 10, 1821 Died July 2, 1871 Asleep in Jesus And on a flat granite stone: To the memory of Sarah Jane wife of William J.
