He was born in Stafford County, Virginia, in 1764. He enlisted in that county and served in the Virginia Continental line from 1781 to March 1782 and from, the summer of 1783 to November, 1783, under Colonel Haws, Captain William Ballard, Captain Thomas Mountjoy, Captain Fitzpatrick and Captain Johnson. He was in the battle of Yorktown. He married Winifred St. Clair. Note: He died in Harrison County, now West Virginia, in 1835. His children were: John, James, William, Sarah, St Clair, Peter.
