In memory of Mary Jordan Born June 16, 1757 Died Sept. 17, 1838 There is a calm for those who weep And rest for weary pilgrim found And while the mouldering ashes sleep Low in the ground The sun is but a spurt of fire A transient meteor in the sky The soul immortal as its sire Shall never die In memory of Edmund T. Herbert Who departed this life June 19, 1858 In the 34th year of his age. Farewell, dear Edmund, thou hast gone And left me with an aching heart. Its hard to think thou didst so soon depart and leave me with a broken heart. Child, I’ve loved you remembr’d by me How oft at midnight hour I think of thee And when at morn I raise this aching head I wake to sad remembrance that thou art dead. Thy early death will oft recall a sigh To think that all I love must die.
