Will of John Bottom - 1737, Henrico Co. VA 

(I can't give you a record book for this will, but I do have a copy of the actual will if needed)

*This John also had two daughters not named in this will. They were Sarah and Susannah Bottom. Susannah later married Thomas Francis in 1782 (source: The Compendium of American Genealogy, page 528) These two come to light when this John's son John died in 1781 and left his estate to his two sisters as above. He was not married.

In the name of God amen this Second Day of July 1737. I John Bottom of Henrico County being very sick and weak in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God. Therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all man ____ to die. I do make and ordain that this my last Will and Testament that is to Say princapilly (sic) and ___ of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hands of God that gave it life. For my Body I recommend it to the Earth to be buryed (sic) in a Christian like and decent mannor (sic) at the piferotion (sic) of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and his touching seals worldly fate, wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me this life I give diviss (sic) and dispose of the same in the following  manner and form Imprimis.(sic) I give unto my two youngest sons John Bottom and William Bottom and their heirs forever one hundred acres of land to be divided between them.

ITEM I give unto my son Thomas Bottom sixty acres of Land of my plantation to him and his heirs forever. I further give my son Thomas two cows and two heiffers (sic), one feather bed and furniture, one iron pot and one gun.

ITEM I give and bequeath unto Elizabeth my Dear beloved wife all the Remainder of lands, cattle, goods, movables and immovables, whom I likewise _______ and ordain with my son Thomas Bottom to _____ Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written .

Signed, sealed, published, pronownced (sic) and declared by this said John Bottom as his last Will and Testament in presence of us. . .

At a court held for Henrico County the first Monday in September 1737 this Will was presented by the executor upon oath and proved by the oath of his  _______________and thereupon admitted to Record.
