Henry County Deed Book 1 (1777-1779) Deed book located at the Henry County Courthouse, Martinsville, VA Deed - John Journican [JARNAGIN] from Thomas Harbour Pp 69-70 This Indenture Made this Eighth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Seventy [seven] Between Thomas Harbour of the County of Pittsylvania of the one part and John Journican of the County aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thomas Harbour for and in Consideration of the sum of Eight Pounds Current Money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said John Journican before the ensealing and delivery of these Presents, The Receipt whereof he the said Thomas Harbour doth hereby acknowledge hath granted, bargained and sold, aliened Enfeoffed and Confirmed and by these Presents doth grant, bargain and sell alien Enfeoff and confirm unto the said John Journican a certain tract of parcel of land situate lying and being in the County aforesaid Containing Fifty Acres more or less, lying on both sides of Fall Creek and Bounded as followeth: Beginning at a Walnut Thence down a branch to the creek crossing the creek to a black gum . Thence a new line to a black [ommited].Thence North seventy six degrees East to a Road [Red?] Oak south eleven degrees East twenty poles to a road oak North sixty degrees East thirty six poles crossing the creek to a white oak North forty two degrees West fifty four poles to Point__ North Eighty six degrees west crossing two branches of the creek These lines to the first station together with all Trees woods, ways waters watercourses prospects comodities advantages ________and appurtenances whatsoever to the said Tract or Parcel of Land belonging and appurtaining and also the Reversion and Reversions, Remainder and Remainders, Rents and Services of the said Premises above mentioned and of every part thereof with the appurtenances and also the Estate Right and title Indirect Claim and demand whatsoever either in Equity or in Loss of him the said Thomas Harbour of in and to the said premises above mentioned and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances unto the said John Journican his heirs and assigns to the only purposes & behoof of him the said John Journican his heirs and assigns forever and the said Thos. Harbour for himself and his Heirs doth covenant and agree to and with the said John Journican his Heirs and Assigns by these presents that he the said Thomas Harbour, the said fifty acres of land and premises above mentioned and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances unto the said John Journican his Heirs and assigns against him the said Thos. Harbour and all and every other Person and persons whosoever shall and will Warrant and forever defend by these presents. In Witness Whereof the said Thos. This Indenture was proved by the oaths of the witnesses hereto to be the act & Deed of the above named Thomas Harbour also Sarah the wife of the sd. Thomas being Privately Examined as the Law directs Relinquished her right of Dower in & to the within Land and Premises all which was ordered to be Recorded By the Court.
