Henry County Deed Book 1 (1777-1779) Deed book located at the Henry County Courthouse, Martinsville, VA Deed - Sherod Mayes from Zachariah Smith Pp 231-232 This Indenture made this Tenth day of February one thousand seven hundred and seventy nine by and Between Zachariah Smith of the County of Guilford(?) and state of North Carolina of the one part and Sherod Mayes of the County of Henry and state of Virginia of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Zachariah Smith for and in Consideration fo the sum of Fifteen Pounds Current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said Sherod Mayes the receipt whereof he doth acknowledge hath bargained sold and by these presents doth bargain sell alien and confirm unto the said Sherod Mays his heirs and assigns forever one certain Tract or Parcel of land lying and being in the County aforesaid Containing by Estimation sevenysix [sic] acres be the same more or less and bounded as follows to wit: Beginning at a Red Oak on Journykins line. Thence along the said up the creek ________ line Thence North one hundred and sixty poles to a Birch and Dogwood in a branch Thence along the line to a chestnut tree on a branch Thence south along a new line to the beginning. The Reversion and Reversions and Remainders and Remainder Right and Estate Interest and benefit and claim whatsoever belonging to the said Zachariah Smith of in or to the same or any part thereof to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land and all and singular the premises with _________ and _________ of their appurtenances to the only use and behoof of the said Sherod Mayes his heirs and assigns forever and the said Zachariah Smith doth hereby for himself and his heirs warrant and defend the same forever from the claim or title of any person or persons whatsoever.
