Date: 6 July 1780 Thomas Jefferson Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, To all to whom these Presents shall come Greeting KNOW YE that in Consideration of the Ancient Composition of the ancient Composition of four Pounds five Shillings sterling paid by Eliphaz Shelton into the Treasury of this Commonwealth there is Granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said Eliphaz Shelton a Certain Tract or Parcel of Land Containing by Survey bearing date the thirtieth day of October one Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy three, Eight hundred and forty six acres Inclusive lying and being in the County of Henry on Bull Mountain fork of Mayo River and Bounded as followeth, to Wit, Beginning at a white oak on a Branch thence up the same as it Meanders to a Poplar thence off North fifty East two hundred and forty Poles Crossing three Branches to a Chesnut tree South fifty Three East one hundred and four Poles to Pointers on a Branch thence up the same as it Meanders to Pointers South forty East three hundred and four Poles to a hickory South twenty one West one hundred and Eight Poles to a white oak North Sixty Nine West one hundred and Sixty two Poles to a Chesnut tree South fifty one West ninety two Poles to Pointers North fifty one West Eighty two Poles Crossing a Branch to a Locust South Sixty West forty eight Poles to Pointers South Eighty three West Eighty four Poles to a Dogwood on a Branch thence South thirty five West sixty six Poles to a white Walnut tree on the said Branch, thence down the same and up the Creek as they meander to a Birch thence off North fifty eight West forty four Poles to a white oak North thirty two Poles to a Spanish oak North twenty Nine West twenty two Poles to a white oak North twenty three West sixty to a white Oak North Eighty two West fifty two Poles to the Beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said Tract or Parcel of Land, with its appurtenances, to the said Eliphaz Shelton and his Heirs for Ever.
